Unit 1 – An introduction to working with children
Section 4 –
D5&B1- It is important to phone the placement and check where the placement is and ask for directions if you are not sure, so that you will not get lost and be late to placement, which means also checking what time you have to arrive to placement because parents also make judgements on observations they make briefly, good first impressions reassure them. Also even arrange a pre-visit so then you will know where the placement is ready for whenever you start and discuss the things you need to know. Checking the dress code is very important because you will need to look presentable and be identified as a student and not a staff member. Also checking what equipment you need to bring with you to placement is important so you can carry on with what your expected to do and so that you are organised, also so that you are respected as an individual that cares, hardworking, so may be given extra responsibilities which leads to greater learning and enjoyment in placement. It’s very important you ask who you go to for advice/per-diaries so that you feel confident you can speak to someone when you feel the need to, and get your per-diaries filled out when due to. Plus you will need to find out the policies and procedures, this is very important so that you keep to your boundaries of what you can and can’t do, and anything that is expected of you like safeguarding which should always be taken into consideration if there was a situation

The purpose of this class is to set them up for the years they have to come in a school as they will start to learn the basics of English, maths and other subjects so they are prepared to start learning although they will also start to set there early learning goals. They follow the EYFS for this class. And a statutory setting for the age range 5-7

    There are many legislations that influence healthy safe and secure environments for early years settings these include: the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which all settings have responsibilities under this means that settings must meet certain rules to make sure all children our safe. It also means that settings have to be careful that there is no risk of injuries to anyone. This means that everyone in a children’s setting has responsibility for the safety and health of everyone there. Regarding settings which educate or care for children the Health and Safety at Work Act states: that buildings should be in a good stable position with the safety of the people using it, the building and surroundings should be safe and clean, all equipment of the setting should be stored and used safely and that working practises must promote safety and health of children. Another legislation is the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations 1995 this requires the report of setting relating accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences. It applies to all the settings activities however it doesn’t to all incidents. The following are the things that must be reported to the health and safety person in the setting. Death or very serious injury to a child, staff member or member of the public, certain setting related illnesses and dieses, an over three day injury and a dangerous occurrence- something that has clearly could have been done but does not actually result in a reportable injury. Another legislation is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 which states that substances which can injure or make people ill should be used as well as stored safely, for instance substances such as bleach, paints and chemicals. This legislation states that any potentially dangerous substances or materials must be labelled showing they are hazardous also they must be stored correctly in a locked cupboard.…

    E1. There are many responsibilities that practitioners have when maintaining professional relationships and one of these is to respect the views of parents and children.     My chosen Professional that works with children is a counsellor. This is a type of therapy in which a child may speak to an adult in confidence. A counsellor is trained to listen and try to encourage the patient to do better in that certain area. Counselling helps to overcome a traumatic experience or helps the child think in a better frame of mind, although the counsellor will not give the patient advice; but will make the patient think of ways to help the situation themselves.     The three different types of setting are statutory, voluntary and private, each of these areas and provide different types of care and education. Statutory education is where the state fund the setting and it is run by the government. Voluntary education is done for free, the carer or the setting volunteer to do the work. This would include leisure activities such as Brownies, Cubs or other types of youth clubs. The workers that are within the setting, do this for free or as a hobby, however if there were to be trips for the children, they would then have to pay expenses. Private is totally different to these two types of settings. Private settings aim to gain money and are a profitable company/business. This includes private tutors, clubs, babysitting, and even some primary/ secondary school and nurseries. Statutory settings don’t usually make any money, as the education is free for the child, such as primary schools, high school, and some nurseries. However statutory settings don’t always include education, they also include health and care. The NHS is a state run health program where children of all ages can receive free medication, doctors’ appointments and are also eligible for free dentistry. Children are also entitled to Child Care Services; this is from the state where if the child were in danger within their home they have a right to be protected by the Child Care Services. Other statutory services available to children are libraries and other leisure activities. This is due to not having to pay a membership and they are still able to access the setting.…
