Like was said earlier, telling the truth can be challenging. However, since lying can become a habit, the test for business people is to not become someone who constantly lives a lie. Another theory Seglin discusses is the various degrees of lying. From the point of view of two businessmen, it seems that lying is a must for anyone starting their own business without either capital or experience. The author disagrees with this but does argue that there is a qualitative difference between posturing and lying.…

The tenure of Jeff Immelt as CEO of General Electric has been nothing short of interesting. With accusations of unethical practices by his firm (allegations of cooking their books), along with unethical dealings domestically such as his appointment in the Obama administration after being one of its biggest campaign contributors (Int. Ref. #4), and internationally dealing with countries like Iran and Syria by the company (Int. Ref. #2), one cannot overlook GE’s current culture that has been established by Immelt and draw reasonable conclusions. Here we will look at the CEO and the culture he has put forth though the company since his appointment in 2001.…

    A) Joseph has many risk factors, one of them including his family has a history of vascular disease, and he had not thought much about it because he was not living a healthy life style. He had gained weight from eating fatty foods, and had started smoking again. Joseph had a lot of stress from working long hours, and did nothing when he had felt tightness in his chest. These risk factors all affect cellular function. The blood slows, along with oxygen, glucose, and essential ions it carries that are required for the heart to pump, this rapidly uses up ATP supply. Eventually, the cells begin to die, and become leaky. Sodium slowly begins to leak into the cells and potassium leaks out.…

UNDERNEATH IT ALL takes a look at what goes on behind the scenes is getting a business up and going. The one thing that stood out to me in this first section and is mentioned time and time again throughout the book is candor. Welch has talked about using candor for over twenty years and is amazed that it is not used as much as it should be. Welch actually calls the lack of candor “the biggest dirty little secret in business” (p. 25) Welch believes that people should not be afraid to say things like they are. Say what you feel, etc. He believes that a company will run much better with candor going on. Welch has a theory about candor that he calls the Candor Effect.…
