CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

In this modern time, technology is rapidly and constantly advancing in helping in day to day activities and operation especially in terms of business. The computer, which is one of the resources for faster and better ways of getting and managing data into and from a system, is continuously being improved and upgraded to maximize its usage into more powerful and useful applications that can make business transactions faster and more efficient.
This technology helps to maximize the daily routine tasks in most dental clinics, doing transactions in a faster way with more accurate result. But the number of patients keeps growing as the years pass by and variety of dental cases arise that the manual system are not anymore suitable for establishment.
Most dental clinics are still keeping the records of their patient manually and this method usually takes a lot effort and consumes so much time. Providing a treatment that is of quality to the patient is the main task of a dental clinic. The patient must be satisfied with the service being provided by the dentist. While the dentist must insure that the needs of the patient are met, with the help of a system in which both patient and dentist are benefited.
If a dental clinic has an organized system, it is more comfortable to do a lot of tasks. A computerized record system, for example, is more efficient, more convenient and well organized compared to a manual based record system.

I.T. Innovation

The proponents made use of software that is essential in the development of the system. In terms of coding, the proponents made use of Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 as the main programming tool and Microsoft SQL as the database in order to accomplish the proposed system.

Physicians wrote all their orders and prescriptions. Lab work and radiology reports took several days to receive back and reviewed in paper form.
