Catapult Research Paper
Catapult Essay In the catapult project Joey's group decided to try and make a ballista for there catapult project even though it wasn't a catapult. Joeys group worked on the ballista for the first class but didn't really know how to build it and didn't have enough time to try and figure the problems out so we decided to build a catapult.then the next class Joey's group took apart the ballista and started on the catapult. The purpose of this project was to be able to problem solve the problems your catapult had and be able to do it quickly and swiftly without creating more problems for your catapult. The results of our catapult were just okay when we were up to shoot the catapult we didn't realize how much power it had so it went over the wall. So we backed it up and finally the third shot hit the wall and three bricks came down …show more content…
Joey's group original hypothesis did not go as planned Joey's group thought they were gonna make a ballista but ended up making a catapult so their group was nowhere near their hypothesis for the catapult. For the launching part of the hypothesis Joey's Group was pretty close to it but they thought they were gonna git more blocks. Joey's group had a lot of uncertainties like what type of catapult to build they started off with a ballista and changed to a catapult because they thought they could make a better catapult than ballista. If Joey's group would of done a ballista they probably wouldn't have gotten it done on time and it probably wouldn't have shot. If Joey's group could change a few things about their catapult, the first thing they would do is make a bigger arm. Joey's group would change this to try to get it to shoot further and more precise to hit the bricks. Another thing Joey's group would change is the base of the catapult to make it more sturdy so it doesn't shake or sway when you shoot the golf ball so it

The counterweight trebuchet was extremely effective however it was subject to a great deal of stress during operation leading to a shortened life cycle. In order to resolve this problem, the counterweight was placed upon a hinge. This allowed it to swing as it reached the bottom of its fall, consequently reducing the stress placed upon the frame and throwing arm. This redesign not only improved the life span of the device, but also increased the total distance traveled. By increasing the distance covered, engineers were able to also increase the rotational speed of the lever arm, thus increasing the launch speed and force of the projectile.…

Tom Ferebee, from the nose of the Enola Gay, a B-29, used Victor 4120, a Norden M-9B, to release the "Little Man" atomic bomb over Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945 (Twin Beech). The sight remains with the Enola Gay at the National Air and Space Museum 's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington DC. On August 9th, 1945, Kermit Beahan, the bombardier on the Bockscar, another B-29, used a Norden to release "Fatman" over Nagasaki from 31,000 feet. Due to heavy cloud cover, this mission was almost completed using an early radar sight. At the last second though, the clouds opened up just enough to drop the bomb using the Norden (Miller,…

There was a few things I have learned and things that had helped with my project. One of the things I’ve learned is that the funnel is one of the things that takes up lots of time for our project. I think that without the funnel, our project will likely fail. Also, one of the things that help our project is the track. The track help the marble roll down all the way to the big funnel, but friction. Another thing that help our project are the ramps. The ramps are one of the important things that helped our project because without it there'd be no velocity. The track takes up less paper, but lots of time.…

Organizing police departments in a militaristic manner is a theory that contends to lessen corruption amongst the police officers within the department. Depending on how stringent the military model is followed, a police department could have a well functioning system or it could create quite the opposite and develop a department full of corruption, chaos, and mismanagement. Because a department uses the military as a model to develop itself, it does not mean that it is foolproof. Many factors outside of organizing can lead to a well-balanced department or a department as involved in crime as the criminals from which they swore to protect the public. Using a hierarchy of command in departments gives a sense of stability, it delegates responsibilities and it has a person who is…

Because we started this project a little too late, we did not bring any bridges to the actual contest, but we still followed most of the guidelines that they came up with. The goal was to make a bridge that could hold the most weight but also it needed to be light. The bridge had to span over 48 inches. My partners were Kat and Ema. At first, we started to think of designs to make a bridge. Our first design, after calculating how much wood it was going to take, came out to be a very large amount of wood that we could not use. Even though we trashed the idea, we kept the base idea that we had because it was pretty efficient. After around two more designs, we came up with a bridge that would not take that much wood and we believed that it would hold a good amount of weight. The first thing we did was cut out all of our pieces that we needed to create the bridge, this took a long time to calculate and to cut the right size pieces. At the same time of us finishing cutting all our of pieces, a new rule came into play that we could create smaller bridges to span over 12 inches. We cut every piece we had into ¼ of the size. We began creating our design but due to the glue not being very good and a lack of time, we did not finish. We still tested our design and it ended up being one of the best bridges that was made in our class. We decided that if we would have tried this again, we would use our time more wisely. I liked how we were able to make our own design, and how we could use a good amount of wood to create it. I also liked that we were not rushed to do this project. One thing that I would change is that we need to focus on one project at a time. This would allow us to make better designs. I would also change the type of glue that we used because it did not hold very well. The last thing that I would change is that I would like to pick my partners in the…

“Antipersonnel landmines are explosive devices designed to injure or kill people. They can lie dormant for years and even decades under, on, or near the ground until a person or animal triggers their detonating mechanism” (Land Mine Monitor, 2014). There is not control for detonation of landmines and can be activated by pressure, by a radio signal or other remote method or by the closeness of a person. As landmines do not have a specific target are consider victim- activated weapons causing the kill or injure of civilians and soldiers. Detonation of a landmine can be lethal or cause injuries such as blindness, burns, damage limbs and wounds.…

Gunpowder, or black powder, is a flammable powder and considered a “low explosive”. It consists of a mixture of Sulfur, Charcoal powder, and Potassium Nitrate (saltpeter). When put under pressure and lit, it will deflagrate and explode. Gunpowder was widely used in China in hand cannons (early firearms) and firecrackers (early missiles). The earliest recorded usage of gunpowder in a weapon were Chinese land mines developed in the 9th century. Gunpowder is not widely used as an explosive today, however, because more sophisticated explosives have been invented, such as plastic explosives (C4s) and nitro-explosives(ANFO explosives). Gunpowder looks like a grey-silver dust-like powder (shown below). It only retains its value as a firestarter in bullets.…

Once upon a time, there was a little boy who loves to play behind his grandmothers house. One day he found a tree, this was no ordinary tree, this was a muffin tree. He ate one of the muffins and it was one of the best blueberry muffins he had ever had, and everyday he came back and had more delicious muffins, till one day he became very bored, and asked the tree " oh muffin tree, can you please make any other kind of muffin?" But the tree said nothing because it was a tree and tree do not speak. The next day the boy came back and found that to his surpise there was a new kind of muffin. He tried the muffin and it was even better than the first, then three minutes later he fall down dead. Moral of the story is not to wait to till the last minute to do a project because it leads to bs'ing and stress over it. This was an example of procratination; which is the delaying of any project or assignment. Procrastination is bad for your health and grades.…

In one of our subjects in school, we were asked to conceptualize a product. We initially thought of a product for the said project. While we have started with the actual project development we have encountered several problems with regards to the project's feasibility. So halfway through the semester we had to change to a new product. With regards to this change, it was a matter of determining the problem and immediately solving it. Now we were able to come up with a more suitable product.…

In this project, I had to design build and test a 16 inch long truss bridge. The goal of this project was to teach you how bridges are designed and built, and show the process of how bridges are designed and made in the real world by professional engineers. Bridges are used all over the world and it is a very important skill to know and understand how the physics of bridges work and why bridges are made how they are made, and that’s what this project is for. First, I had to come up with a possible design for the shape of the trusses for the bridge. Then I created my bridge design on WestPoint Bridge Builder and tested its ability to hold a truck, and created the design on MD Solids to see the forces acting on the bridge. Next, I built a model of the bridge using popsicle sticks and glued all the pieces together. After the bridge was complete, I tested the bridges strength and ability to hold things and recorded the results. The point of this project was to learn how to design, test, and build bridges sufficiently.…
