CPD 150 Week 1 Assignment Analysis

Looking at my time login for Day 1 was similar to an assignment I did in my CPD 150 class. My reaction to my use of mediated communication is how any normal teenager would reaction, shocked. I did not think I spent the major of my time on my phone either reading, listening to music or watching YouTube videos. The one time log that surprised me the most was watching YouTube for about 7 hours. I did take bathroom breaks and my parents called me but for the major of the time I was glued to my phone. I also noticed the time I spent reading. I like reading books and I rarely read due to my picky selection process. I usually text and/or call my family or church leaders. On Day 2, I went “off the grid” with the exception of a phone call or two. In the beginning I felt there would be nothing to and I would be bored out my mind. To my surprised I was kept rather busy through the day.
I do talk to my family regularly and there was not a noticeable difference that I saw. I did have a little meltdown and complaint to my mom but this assignment. I knew there was nothing stopping me from picking up my phone or watching TV but my mom reminded me of The Marshmallow Project. This project tested the gratification of little kids with marshmallows. The kids were alone in a room with a chair and table for 15 minutes. There was a plate with one marshmallow and if the kids waited 15 minutes without eating the marshmallow they will get two afterwards. Many kids failed the test and ate the marshmallow almost instantly. The kids were told to wait for another 15 minutes. In the end a small handful of the kids passed the test and had the satisfaction of eating two marshmallows. This gave me more motivation to continue with this assignment no matter how hard it would be. I am glad to have participate in this assignment and see the relief this gave me in the end with being away from my
