Brwynog Residential Home Personal Statement
I am currently seeking opportunities to volunteer within my community within the care sector. In the future, I am hoping to pursue a career in Medicine, and therefore this experience would be invaluable to me.
I have already had experience of work within a hospital at Ysbyty Gwynedd and work within a dental practice at Cybi Dental Practice in Holyhead. Both placements taught me a great deal about the importance of patient care and interaction and relationships between healthcare professionals and their patients; and I would like to widen my experience through volunteering at Brwynog Residential Home. Although I have never worked directly with elderly patients, I have have first hand experience of helping care for my own grandparents, two of

I have had experience volunteering with the Urdd, supervising groups of primary school children at Glan-Llyn; where another member of staff and I were responsible for a group of children while they took part in various activities. Each Tuesday morning for the last year, I have volunteered at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes at the Infants' department, where I helped the children with their work and spent time with small groups of children on specific tasks. During my time volunteering at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes, I also spent time with pupils who suffered from learning difficulties, and this helped me to see how certain tasks have to be adapted in order for pupils of varying abilities to succeed. I have also played a large part in the process of transferring pupils in my school's catchment area from primary school to secondary school, by volunteering as a Year Twelve buddy, providing a point of contact at the school for the pupils if they felt in any way uneasy or upset. I was also part of a group of Year Twelve students who ran an arts club for pupils from years 3-9 where primary school children were introduced to the school and some of its current pupils and students through a series of arts and performance workshops. I have strong communication skills and consider myself to be a good active listener, which is an essential skill to have when working with others. I am also fluent in both Welsh and English, which is very important within the local community due to the number of elderly people who have difficulty speaking English. Furthermore, I am a very empathetic person, which is key when working with other

In my UWMC volunteer application statement, I explained the reasons why I'm passionate in volunteering: because of my experience with hospitals and nurses, I developed strong interests in hospital setting, roles of medical staff, and the magnificent human anatomy. After working as both an escort volunteer and a postpartum unit volunteer for over 100 hours, I am finally confident to say that my intuition led me to the right path. Being able to transport patients between different units gave me opportunities to communicate with them, to help them with their needs; while being able to work with nurses helped me building my understanding of the hospital system and unit setup. These two roles not only offered me an opportunity to have both general…

At chapel Street Primary School we offer a variety of services e.g. integrated early education, childcare, community support groups and parent survival courses. Some of these services may include visits to a child’s home or could even have links to training or employment opportunities for families with children under five. In my work setting we help to support working parents by extending the day by combining early education and childcare e.g. breakfast clubs, after school clubs. By offering these clubs different agencies can work together for the benefit of each child.…

For my service this year, I was involved with Applecross Opal Nursing Home. Opal age care was a great help to me in opening my eyes to the desperate need for an extra pair of hands and the importance of nursing homes. Not only to the individual admitted in, but also to their families and friends. As I would arrive at 12.00 every time, I would go straight into lending a hand with lunch. Handing out the meals, packing away, cleaning up and keeping an eye on a few of the residents was my first job done. Then I would wonder through the compound talking to the residents, playing and colouring in with them and I would gather and assist them to and from their rooms. With all these jobs, you had to keep a look out for and take extra care with some of the more dependant residents.…

I want to join the Volunteer Program at Humber River Hospital for many reasons. Firstly, I really love helping people and I feel like getting an experience in this program could really allow me to express my full potential to make a person’s day better. I want to do everything I can to contribute to my community. I also want to go into the medical field someday and I really think this program is the best place to start. I say this because it will give me the chance to interact with different types of patients and visitors which will allow me to expand my communication and problem-solving skills. It would also give me a taste of the hospital environment. I also believe that I have the skills it takes for this program because I have many volunteering experiences like: at my elementary school’s summer camp, running high school events and at the Gibson House Museum.…

I have learnt to be tolerant and to understand other people’s cultures, to respect beliefs and values of other people. This excited me, and I felt I wanted to find out how much I had learnt from this module and what to apply to my placement. I wanted to find out if the patients had individual rights at these homes. I was keen on observing how the staff cared for the aged, and to see if the standard set by the Care Homes Regulatory Office were being met. I was surprised to find that the department of health has stipulated the National Minimum Standard for the Care homes for Older People. I also felt apprehensive about being excluded by the carers, on the groups of respecting the patient’s private needs, if any. Nevertheless I was also concerned about the new environment of working in hand with the carers who understood what was expected from them. This was a challenge for me I then confirmed my…
