Short Essay 1 7/5/13
Now I am 17 years old, just graduated high school and starting college very soon. I went to Massapequa high school in Massapequa in New York. Now I am starting at Bloomsburg University. I am leaving many friends from my home and my family and I need a way to communicate with them. That’s why social media and technology are important to people that are going away to school.
In my life I use social media a lot. Especially now that I am going into college! I use my iPhone for many things, such like keeping intouch with my friends, using texting, FaceTime. Even through social media apps, too see where my friends and family have gone or what they have done without them even telling me. There are many different ways to stay connected with people you haven’t seen in a awhile the first way is through pictures. And there are many apps for that, such as Instagram, pinterest. I follow all my friends and family to stay connected and to see what they are doing. I can see if we posted a picture and where they posted that picture and who they are with, Without even asking that person. On pinterest I see pictures on my homepage on the app pinterest of many different things. I see pictures of clothing that I might be interested in, I see creative things I would do to my dorm room. The other ways I can gain friends or stay connected with my family is a social media site called Facebook. Facebook is one of the older social media sites and has a wide variety of age groups on this site. Such as ten years old to eighty years old and maybe even older. I use Facebook quiet often, when I am on my Iphone or even when I am on my laptop. I use Facebook to see what people are doing. Facebook is good to use to gain friends. For me when I am going into college everyone writes on a Bloomsburg university Facebook page and I found a roommate and started becoming very close to her. The app that many teenagers, students, adults and myself is twitter, I think twitter is the most used app in social media. Twitter is an app that allows you to “tweet” what you are feeling, I can tweet to someone that I follow. I follow the people that I am friendly with and have spoken to, but I also follow my favorite celebrities also. Twitter is a social media site that is used now to share breaking news, through people’s tweets. It is so easy to now find out information. Technology becomes more advance as the time goes by every year and now it is just easier to find things that you are looking for. Especially through social media sites. Like facebook there are always news reports that come up on my newsfeed. If I see something on Facebook that I want to find more information about I just go to Youtube which is a video site, and watch live clips of something or a news report about something. Youtbue is a video social media site that has a huge variety of videos. It goes from music videos, to news reports to videos made by children or even adults, there are videos about how to do stuff. Youtube is very helpful to me cause I use to find information and videos about everything.
