Thomas Fuller, an English author, once wrote, “We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.” Humans are not the only organisms dependent on water for survival. Plants, animals, and the entire planet Earth are dependent on water. The Earth is made up mostly of water, but only three percent of that water can be considered fresh enough for human consumption. With only three percent of the Earth’s water able to be consumed, it is imperative that the cleanliness of the water be sustained by all humans.…

Water is probably the most important resource we as people have. Humans can survive without food for several weeks, but without water we would die in less than a week. On a slightly less dramatic note, millions of liters of water are needed every day worldwide for washing, irrigating crops, and cooling industrial processes, not to mention leisure industries such as swimming pools and water-sports centers. Despite our dependence on water, we use it as a dumping ground for all sorts of waste, and do very little to protect the water supplies we have.…

According to Nick Holland, BBC Business and economics reporter on the economic value of honeybees on Thursday 23rd April 2009 pasted that; Honey Bees keep the world alive "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then Man would only have four years of life left. No more Bees, no more Pollination, no more Plants, no more Animals, no more man, this remark is often attributed to Albert Einstein, but few scientists now believe this doomsday scenario will actually happen. Nevertheless, the apocalyptic vision is an indication of how important honeybees are to the world's agricultural economy. It is estimated a third of the food we eat is pollinated by bees. So it is no wonder the dramatic and unexplained decline in the population of these insects is worrying for everyone, not just the conservationists. Fewer bees mean less pollination, which results in less honey and fewer plants. The consequences are damaging industries that depend on the insects' survival and threaten to make the food we eat more expensive. Bees do more than just make honey. They fly around pollinating all sorts of fruit and vegetables, which end up in our plates. Their role in the food chain is so important that in…

The Athi catchment region is characterised by varying geology and hydro geological conditionswhich leads to different aquifers. The upper zone is predominantly volcanic with relativelygood water yielding aquifers. The middle zone has localized aquifers in the fractured andweathered zones of the Basement system, with alluvial aquifers being locally important.Chyulu Hills host the aquifer that supplies the Mzima Springs, as well as the spring units thatflow from the eastern side of the range. Volcanic aquifers on the northern flank of Kilimanjaroare sources of a number of springs that are of water supply, irrigation and tourism values(Nolturesh, Kimana, Entonet respectively). The Coastal zone is susceptible to sea waterintrusion and pollution from domestic and industrial point sources. The coastal hinterlandaquifers are generally poor and often brackish.…
