1 GETTING STARTED
What is My HR Map? My HR Map is an online self-assessment tool that allows CIPD members to engage interactively with the HR Profession Map to support their own professional development. Members can use it to assess their capability against the activities, knowledge and behaviours in the map and access recommendations for development.

Whether you’re a generalist or specialist, working in the UK or internationally, the tool provides an interactive way for you to learn more about your strengths and development opportunities. It’s been designed to support HR practitioners at every stage of their career.

Which browsers support My HR Map? My HR Map is best viewed through the browsers Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer can be used from version 6 onwards. What username and password do I use? You’ll need to log in using your CIPD website account. If you don’t have a website account you’ll need to create one before you start. To log in or register, enter the relevant details into the box on the right-hand side.

How do I log in to the system? You can log in using your username and password that you have to access membership-protected areas of the website. Once you are logged in, the first instruction is to identify your band. Use the tab to choose what you think is the right band for you.

How do I log out of the system? You can log out of My HR Map at any time by using the log out tab. You can access this log out button at any point in My HR Map. However, if you are conducting an assessment, please remember to save your assessment before you decide to exit the tool.

Do I need to know about the CIPD HR Profession Map before I start? Before starting an assessment with My HR Map we strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the CIPD HR Profession Map. It is important to understand the key components of the Map, particularly the bands, professional areas and behaviours. Explore the Map to find out more.

How do I get started? The first step is to identify the band where you feel you spend the majority of your time. You cannot start an assessment without completing this step.

How do I start a new assessment? Choose an assessment from the list of professional areas and behaviours on the left. Once you have chosen your assessment, you are presented with either a definition of a professional area or a behaviour. If you choose a professional area, choose either to conduct a self-assessment against the activities or knowledge to start the process. If you choose a behaviour, ‘take’ the assessment to start the process. Once you have started an assessment, you must complete it to see your results. If after you have completed it you would like to retake an assessment, this option is available.

When can I retake an assessment? You can retake any assessment that you have completed at any time. When you do so, My HR Map will not save the results from your previous assessment. If you want to keep these results, please save a copy of your report to your files before your assessment.
