“All too soon, I came to understand what hard work this was (Felsenfeld 626).” Those are the words stated by Daniel Felsenfeld in his narrative essay, “Rebel Music,” where he takes us through a personal journey of becoming a composer. He started off as being an “uninspired” 17-year-old boy taking piano lessons, who soon found he had a hidden passion for classical music that promptly turned into an epic career. For me, lacrosse was my piano lessons. At the young age of 13-years-old, I made the decision to be brave and join the local lacrosse team. When I began, I knew next to nothing about the game, but I soon fell in love with the trill of the sport. That year I bought my first lacrosse stick; it felt just like opening your first present on Christmas day. Not only did I adore it, but it taught me dedication, perseverance, and courage, three things I didn’t know I needed, but now have great understanding for.
By definition, dedication means the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose, essentially meaning passion. The way I see it, dedication is so much more than just exaggerated passion, it means that you’re willing to push forward and strive for what needs to be done. When I made the decision to dedicate myself to lacrosse, I gained so much more than just the skills needed for the game; I learned to be a better teammate, a better friend, and an understanding of what it meant to be a part of
Brown 2 something. Dedication is an important thing, but dedication alone isn’t enough to make you the best you can be, not as a teammate, not as a player, and not as a person. It did give me the drive I needed, but perseverance gave me the push towards improvement.
I knew what it took to become a better teammate and a skilled player because of my dedication, but perseverance caused me to put my skills of dedication into action. The motto of my team was, “Proud always, Satisfied never,” which meant that we should always be proud of ourselves but that

“Do your job.” A simple quote by Bill Belichick (New England Patriots Head Football Coach) but this quote means a lot about my character. The reason it means a lot to me is because if you work tremendously hard and do your job your team will be successful. My head football coach, Mike Rowe uses this quote as well and adds “If everybody does your job you will be successful. Trust your teammates since they will fight for you and the rest of the team.” I am tying this quote to football but it can be used in any team sport you are involved in. Football teaches character and that’s why I love it so much. I’ve learned so much about myself and how I want to live my life just from being in football.…

Having dedication to me is being a productive worker with incomparable effort. I believe that I possess this quality. I have learned from two hard working parents how to be a dependable, responsible person. There was a time that I had a solo concert for the performance center I go to. I was very ill and didn’t think I would be able to make it. With a few prompting words from my parents, and some strong cold medicine, I successfully performed a very difficult song in Italian. It went because I believed that it was my duty to go and perform. It would have been unfair to my vocal coach if I didn’t come, and made an excuse. No matter what, I strive to be committed to excellence and success, because I want to be an excellent and successful person.…
