Andiswe Soundscape Analysis
Andiswe lures men from nightclubs for organ harvesting but Matthew ends up killing them and having sex with the dead bodies so the mood of our movie is scary

SOUNDSCAPE
Soundscape is the space in which characters live
Night shift being a horror the sound is supposed to bring out the scary element, tension and fear.
Through sound we have to bring out Andiswe’s fear, tension, pain as well as Matthew’s beasty nature.
The sound has to evoke the audience’s emotions of tension and suspense.
Music plays an important role in creating suspense and emotional impact so we plan of using music to that effect.

‘’The use music is one of the most effective ways that a movie can use to create a certain atmosphere or sense of mood in movies” (The artifice.com)

Hitchock remarked that 33% of the effect of psyco was due to the music.

ON SET RECORDING

We have two locations one is a hall that we are using as a night club, for this location I have to source sounds effect to make the audience believe we were in an actual bar, the ambience of night clubs, effects of a party atmosphere, people drinking and talking, bar fridge hums all this makes the night club scene real and believable

The other location is at an abandoned hospital; with its tightly spaced echoes the location is good for a horror movie sound.
The ambience of this abandoned hospital is that of a haunted place which works well for a horror movie.
“Ambience work in the most prime way, they can speak to our brain sub cautiously ” (Tasos Fentzola 2016)
According to light film school.com “majority of fixing the audio happens at location scouting”
The abandoned hospital is a good pick for our film.

MICROPHONE CHOICE For dialogue my microphone choice is the short gun microphone because its a directional microphone and it selectively picks up sound from its front

When operating a boom it’s very important to know the camera and actor movements, this helps to keep the boom out of frame while getting the microphone as close as possible to the actor for crisp sound.

Booming Over head: Recording dialogue between two actors (Andiswe &Mathew) in the same shot, this technique is going to help a lot because the microphone is put above and slightly before the actors, places in the Centre of both actors which helps to create a clean recording.
“ When booming from overhead, the mix between all actors delivering dialogue sounds more natural meaning less mixing in post-production” (Matt Hibbard 2014)

Booming from below: This is where a microphone is placed slightly ahead and below the actor, angling the microphone directly at the source of sound, am using this technique when recording the sleep over scene, it will be useful because it’s ideal for small spaces.

POST PRODUCTION
For dialogue scenes, the sound is to be recorded onset but incase of any mishaps I plan to make an arrangement for an automated dialogue replacement to be

In the scene “Barrels” Jaws (1975), of the three categories music was more prominent than any other. There were several conversations as well. When anyone thinks of Jaws, they think of the music. It creates a sense of danger, suspense, and apprehension. The music in this scene works well with the dialogue, lighting, and continuity of editing. Goddykoontz and Jacobs (2011) describe music as being “a crucial part of the movie-going experience” (Sec. 6.4; papa. 18).…

The relationship between an individual and their surroundings has been important message for soundscape compositions and ambient music. Soundscapes and ambient music communicate “various sonic environments to the listener in order to foster awareness of sounds that are often ignored” (Truax, 2002, p.5). It is important that soundscape compositions “keep a clear degree of recognizability in its sounds” (Truax, 2002, p.6). This allows the listener to be able to understand where these sounds are coming from and gain a sense of place. Both soundscape compositions and “ambient music [are] intended to enhance” the sounds that are already in the environment (Eno, 1978, p.1). The soundscape compositions of Brian Eno and Hildegard Westerkamp immerse individuals into an environment,…

The voice-over mainly happens when the two talk on-line. When either one types to each other, you hear them consciously saying their conversation. The voice-over adds some definition to the whole idea of them talking on-line. Since they can't talk to each other in person, the voice-overs make the conversations complete. In addition, the way Meg Ryan says her conversations in the sweetest way or even the way Tom Hanks describes The Godfather in his fake manly voice adds to the charm.…

The boom operator's job is to clearly record the dialogue, and only the dialogue. At first glance it may seem odd that we add back to the soundtrack the very sounds the sound recordists tried to exclude. But the key word here is control. By excluding these sounds during filming and adding them in post, we have complete control over the timing, quality, and relative volume of the sound effects.…

An element of the craft of acting that is an important aspect when performing is voice. Voice can set the mood and tone of for an actor through dialogue and can enhance their overall performance. This was evident in Travis Hennessy’s (Alain) performance. He had a controlled and a well-established vocal control, especially in the area of projection. Projection is vital to ensuring that a play is heard and understood, without projection a play becomes arduous to hear and the audience become disgruntled. Regardless of whether he was engaged in a quiet phone conversation or yelling at other characters with vexation, Hennessy spoke with clarity and consistently projected his voice to the back row of the audience. When using his inside voice, Hennessy still projected it competently. However, Georgie Todman’s (Annette) projection was muted by her posture on the stage. On several occasions in the beginning of the play, Todman was staring at the ground when speaking. As her character was not naturally loud, her words were…

Sitting at the café on the corner of Adams and Michigan, listening to the sounds of a bye-gone era, as noises endeavored all around for your undivided attention. What was happening? A busy café with customers coming and going, people talking, bad coffee brewing and even worse espresso, and machines were working at periodic (criminally sonic) capacity. In the midst of all this extraneous noise, a background music system, (on this occasion music from the 40’s and 50’s like Frank and big band jazz), was trying to entertain us. [A side note; the very idea of background music is that it needs a background with a noise floor that is different (lower) enough from its own level to be unobtrusive. If this is not the case, as is the case with most cafes, then you have a background music system acting like a foreground system. This is never a great idea, in the future I hope to address this professionally].…

Another very noticeable trait of this wondrous place is all . First is the TV, which is normally always on NCIS. You hear the noise coming from the chamber of their pistols as they shoot at the bad guys while they try to get away. Next is the sound of billiards being played in the entertainment room. You hear the crash of the billiard balls hitting each other. Finally, is the sweet sound of pressure being released as I open my Mountain Dew. It makes that sweet hissing noise as it fizzes to the rim of the bottle almost making it over flow. Those are just a few noises to be noticed in this phenomenal place.…
