The Haunted Hospital Summary
“The Haunted Hospital” written by Miss Cellania gathers the background information at Waverly Sanatorium, a hospital that was used to treat patients with tuberculosis in the early 1900’s that resulted in an estimated 64,000 patients had passed during the operation of Waverly until it had closed in 1961 (Cellania). The article continues discussing the hauntings of the sanatorium such as the underground tunnel and room 502. ‘The Haunted Hospital’ closes with the topic of the new owners of the sanatorium and their plans on restoring the historic monument.
In “The Haunted Hospital”, the author provides factorial information by providing proven facts to back-up the statements expressed along the writing. These facts make the article more believable

The article continues describing real paranormal experiences at Waverly to result in a more reliable resource to the readers. However, the article may not be as a reliable source because the webpage is created from a fan base that is not affiliated with the hospital itself.
Both “The Haunted Hospital” and “Waverly Hills Stories” include similar aspects of the haunted location. Both articles include detailed and similar experiences of the body chute and room 502 at Waverly. Although “Waverly Hills Stories” includes more experiences within the location, whereas “The Haunted Hospital” provides a more detailed article of the phenomena happenings at Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
Of the two articles, I enjoyed “The Haunted Hospital” most rather than “Waverly Hills Stories.” “The Haunted Hospital” gathered information and pictures to back up the statements with made it more enjoyable for me to read. Even though I would not use either of these article as a reference for future writings, but I would rather use “The Haunted Hospital” as a more reliable resource due to the writing being well put together than “Waverly Hills

Heading downstairs to turn off the television, it went to dead silence. The TV was off, lights off, there was no one in sight.…

Both stories deal with the theme of the supernatural – the ‘ghost’ and the wish granting paw. Another, less obvious theme is the nature of humans, the main character in The Red Room is very confident in the face of the wisdom of the elderly residents of the castle. Even in the opening sentence the man seems to simultaneously acknowledge and dispel the fear of the paranormal in the Castle by saying “it will take a very tangible ghost to frighten me.” He is showing off his confidence,…

Partially obscured by fog, the Charles Radley Asylum for the Criminally Insane always stood as still as death among the chaotic hive of activity that was central London at morning rush hour. The red brick building was over a hundred years old and looked it, with rusted wrought iron gates, crumbling bricks and a thick coating of ivy that clung to the cracked bricks. Despite it still being in operation, the locals hadn't seen a soul exit or enter the building in as long as they could remember. The gates remained shut, the gardens deserted and no hint of patient or staff member alike could be ever be glimpsed from the street. No one really knew what went on behind the perpetually locked gates but there were whispers of electric shock therapy,…

The predominant mode of Maupassant’s psychological stories is not the manifestation of the ghostly supernatural in the traditional sense; rather the stories focus on some mysterious dimension of reality that exists beyond what the human senses can perceive. But even as this realm of reality is justified rationally, the reader is never quite sure whether the realm truly exists "out there" in the world of the story or whether it is a product of the obsessive mind of the narrator. The style of several of these tales is similar to some of the stories of Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose Bierce, particularly the stories of the perverse which combine narrative story line with the narrator's quasi-philosophic considerations of madness, murder, and the mysterious realm beyond the pale of ordinary understanding.…
