Your husband’s already made it to America, you’re left alone in your house, and you still have that baby on the way. You hope you’ll get the Green Card soon, to see your husband again, and just because your baby’s life will be so much easier as an American citizen. The clock seems to tick on and on but nothing’s getting done. There’s no use trying for a Visa instead either, it won’t get to your house any faster. You gave birth in your own home with a midwife thinking it was safer than the hospitals, and in all reality, it probably was. Every little detail of the land you grew up in is starting to become more reason to want to leave. Most worrying, is the fact that you can start to understand why some would cross the border illegally. Such an easy solution to such a gaping problem you would have never suspected existing, well, some may be tempted by that, but your ideals are too strong to cave. You’d never break the law like that, the ease of action wasn’t worth the risk of deportation. America is seeming more and more like a distant dream every day, a place where things are supposed to get better. Who would have guessed the pathway to such a place is covered in obstacles and long treks? However, that pathway is the only way to reach America, so you walk the metaphorical path, knowing in your heart there’s no real other
