Acknowledgements
A thesis is never successfully completed in isolation. I received help, encouragement, critique, consolation and from many people who deserve acknowledgement. I would like to gratefully acknowledge the support that I received from my workplace, the College of Industrial Technology, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok (KMITNB).

The College of Industrial Technology gave me a full

scholarship in both money and time for further study in the Doctor of Education program at Victoria University, Australia.

I acknowledge the support of the

Administrative Committee, especially Assistant Professor Preecha Ong-aree, the Director, who approved my scholarship. Without this scholarship I could not have devoted so great a part of my life to study this program. I am grateful to all of my colleagues in the College of Industrial Technology, especially those in the English Department who had to take on my work while I had leave for one year to do my research. Special thanks are also due to my colleagues, Mrs. Busayanee Getmanee, Dr. Prapai Jantrasakul and Dr. Neelawan Vanichkorn, who were willing to be observers while I was conducting the research. My thanks also to Associate Professor Richard Watson Todd, lecturer at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, who suggested that his database would help me to obtain more information and to Miss Wirawan Yimkhao, a librarian, who was very kind and friendly whenever I searched for new journals, articles and books at the Resource Centre at King Mongkut’s

University

of

Technology,

Thonburi

(KMUTT).

Grateful

acknowledgement goes to all Industrial Power Technology and Electronic Computer Technology students at the College of Industrial Technology, King Mongut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok, who were enthusiastic participants in the activities. Many others whose names do not appear here are entitled to many thanks for encouraging me with kind moral support during the development stage. Special thanks to Lorraine Davis, who was very generous to proof reading the final draft and also thanks to Ray Davis, who was a very encouraging person, motivated me to confidently conclude my final chapter.

iii

I would like to heartily express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to my Supervisor, Professor David Maunders, who is always willing to work hard to give his expert guidance, knowledge, insight and time. In addition, he has demonstrated tolerance to read and reread many drafts over almost four years of this study. Finally, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to my family especially my parents who always take care of me and empowered me to complete this thesis.
