Acknowledgement

This is a discourse that is made for metaphysical study that brought enlightenment with the two different paradigms that explicate the essential attribution to the implication of the self to the Filipino.

I would like to acknowledge the help of some people who made this research possible Dr. Segundo Sim for his direction, assistance, and guidance particularly in his recommendations and suggestions have been invaluable for the research.

I also wish to thank Sir Garnace, who has taught me techniques of writing.

Special thanks should be given to my classmates and colleagues who helped me in many ways. Finally, words alone cannot express the thanks I owe to my family for their encouragement and assistance.

Abstract Although philosophical inquiries regarding the notion of the self bombarded through different elucidation of philosophers still encompasses the internal aspect of within as a metaphysical commitment which regard to the notion of the East and West paradigm.

    5. The spiritual purpose of breaking down any unchanging locus of individuality is to demonstrate that there is nothing or “no-thing” to be attached to direct one’s desire toward. The no-self concept shows in the Buddhism doctrine with the problem of explaining moral causalities. It argues that one’s consciousness escapes the body at death and passes over into another’s physical form to be reincarnated into the nest life form. Even though the no-self-concept or no-soul doctrine was centered in Buddhism mindset for the elite of philosophy, householders across Asia still conceived themselves as body and soul. This contradiction showed how peripheral some doctrines adhere to the main understanding of Buddhism.…

“Custom, then, is the great guide of human life. It is that principle alone which renders our experience useful to us, and makes us expect, for the future, a similar train of events with those which have appeared in the past. Without the influence of custom, we should be entirely ignorant of every matter of fact beyond what is immediately present to the memory and senses. We should never know how to adjust means to ends, or to employ our natural powers in the production of any effect. There would be an end at once of all action, as well as of the chief part of speculation.” (Hume, Enquiry)…

Self-concept is an important construct in psychology and education. It can be defined as the object of an individual’s own perception or in other words it is the way people think about themselves. It is that part of personality of which one is aware. The Philippines.—But the Philippines possess certain advantages which, in the course of some years, may tell strongly in her favor. There are greater natural resources, a richer soil, and more tillable ground. The population, while not large, is increasing rapidly, more rapidly, in fact, than the population of Japan or of Java. And in the character of her institutions the Philippines have certain advantages. The position of woman, while so unfortunate in Japan, as in China and nearly all eastern countries, in the Philippines is most fortunate, and is certain to tell effectually upon the advancement of the race in competition with other eastern civilizations. The fact that Christianity is the established religion of the people makes possible a sympathy and understanding between the Philippines and western countries.…
