A Lack Of Youth Minority Role Model

A community issue that is important to me, is a lack of youth minority role models. This is an issue to me because minorities need someone to look up to and someone to lead them. Especially in the African American community when fatherly or a typically male played role is not always there. Not having a role model can easily affect a child and their aspirations. That is why I think there should be more minority role models, so other minorities students will have one another to support and one another to look up to. To fix this community issue, minority students would have to do is hold one another accountable and expect one another to do all that they can to succeed. Roles models can shape a person, regardless of the sex, religion, class etc. Though a role model that looks like you can touch you even closer than someone may not.
Without the I have in my life, I do not think I would have the opportunities and the future I have planned. Especially being a minority in Portland Oregon it can be overwhelming at time to be surrounded by people who do not look like you that are succeeding yet the people that do look like you are not succeeding.
