Abstract

The objective of this project is to replace the existing manual reading of electricity meters installed throughout the country (Home, Agricultural, and Industrial). The proposed solution is to build a server for the Electricity boards in each state where the custom built GSM meters would update in real time through SMS and instant status of the meter network can be established. The system will cut costs and improve transparency to a very large extent. Any failure or inconvenience on the consumer side can be instantly detected and rectified. The electricity board server can monitor and analyze the status of each and every individual meter on the network. The server would also provide a complete billing solution for the same.
Various electronic meters have been developed and are still being developed. However the use of GSM in this particular system provides numerous advantages over methods that have been previously used. Data transmission is charged at standard SMS rates,

The project “Automated Electricity Meter” aims to move away from the traditional method of manual reading of electricity meters in which an individual has to physically record the reading. Instead the project proposes to successfully be able to take the meter reading automatically without having a person be physically present while taking the reading, thereby reducing manpower requirement. This system helps the users by alerting them about the peak loads (max energy consumption), power status (ON/OFF), billing status etc. The voice alerts could be in any local language. Hence this system can be used across the world. The typical voice alerts are “Over load”, “Pay electricity bill”, “Turn off the lights” etc. This system also consists of a LCD display that continuously displays the energymeter readings in real-time. This consists of Real-time clock for calculating the average, max and minimum readings with respect to time. This information is display on a LCD display. As the project name suggests, the vision of our project is to create an automated environment for the purpose of meter readings and thus reduce the dependency on human resources. Thus the Talking Energymeter/Smart energymeter would be the an interactive representative of the company for the purpose of taking readings without involving human error.…

These are the studies and documentation that were gathered which can support the proposed system and will serve as an overview of the presentation of the system analysis. The remarks that have been gathered show the demand for this kind of software. It not just ease the burden of the users but also it gives the system consistency which only specialized software can provide. It includes the foreign and local studies. These data are important aspect in the development of the project. The following are the works the researcher have taken into consideration:…

The purpose of this project is to build a KWH (Kilo Watt Hour) meter that can alert the users with voice messages. An Energy meter or KWH meter is a device that measures the amount of electrical energy supplied to or produced by a residence, business or machine. Electricity is a clean, convenient way to deliver energy. The electricity meter is how electricity providers measure billable services. The most common type of meter measures kilowatt-hours. When used in electricity retailing, the utilities record the values measured by these meters to generate an invoice for the electricity. They may also record other variables including the time when the electricity was used. The idea behind this project is to construct the Energy Meter that is useful for illiterates and the busy people who cannot concentrate on the energy meter readings because of their busy schedule. This system also consists of a LCD display that continuously displays the energy meter readings in real-time. This consists of Real-time clock for calculating the average, max and minimum readings with respect to time. This information is display on a LCD display. This can be achieved by the use of microcontroller unit that continuously monitors and records the Energy Meter readings in its permanent (non-volatile EEPROM) memory location. Microcontroller also drives the voice module to play the voice messages based on the energy meter readings. This system also implemented for a single push button based load control for turning ON or OFF the loads.…

Utilities are continually looking to find ways of increasing cash flow within their organizations. There are an existing number of electricity and water utilities in countries such as Malaysia, Oman, Seychelles, Indonesia and Turkey who have moved to systems where not only are the meter readings captured by handheld computers, but bills are also electronically issued on the door step of the customer. This enables the time taken from meter reading to the customer receiving a bill from centrally issued billing of a minimum of 24 hours for efficient billing systems, down to a matter of seconds.…
