The argument from evil
The argument from evil

In this paper I am going to use the very popular argument from evil, which was made popular and originated from the Greek philosopher Epicurus, to argue that existence of god is highly improbable. I’ll put this argument in the simplest of terms. For my first premise I am stating that if an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent god exists than evil does not exist. For my second premise I am stating that evil exists in this world. When you put these two together it’s easy to see the conclusion that god does not exist. To object to this argument I am going to attack the first premise and state that there are necessary evils in the world that help us grow and that we are better people, making it possible for both god and evil to exist together, making it reasonable for god to exist. I will then explain my counter stating that there are times when evil exists when there is no growth and that it overall would eliminate morality. This all concludes with my original conclusion that god does not exist.
Now when I am talking about god, I think it’s important that we are on the same page when we are talking about god. He would know where all evil exists and comes from because he is all-knowing. Let’s not forget that with him being omnipotent which means he has the power to prevent all aspects of evil. If we put all of these things I have stated together it’s easy to see that god is someone who would
