I am against Texting while driving, which is the act of composing, sending, reading text messages, email, or making other use of the web on a mobile phone while operating a motor vehicle. Texting while driving is a growing trend and a national epidemic quickly becoming one of the of the country’s top killers. Drivers assume they can handle texting while driving and remain safe, but the numbers don’t lie. There been many motor vehicle accidents because people texting while operating a motor vehicle. Texting and driving statistics 1,600,000 accidents per year, 330,000 injuries per year, 11 teen deaths every day nearly 25% of all car accidents. Now the law is you can’t operate a vehicle and text or answer the phone. Now you see in many places has restricted area so you can use your phone or text. They are many individual state laws for texting while driving. In state of Massachusetts the law is they prohibits drivers from sending a text or instant message use of electronic mail, internet access using a phone for GPS navigation and all of the above on electronic devices including phones laptops ,pagers, or other hand-held device .In the mayoral state have same law for texting while driving. The risk of crashing while texting increases more because reading or sending a text diverts the driver’s eyes from the road. Even taking on a mobile phone while operating a vehicle is considered dangerous the threat increased as short message service or texting became popular. Texting has become a social fairly quickly since as most cell phones plan includes a text messaging package. The popularity of Smartphone which allow people to communicate in even more ways increases the likelihood of usage. The dilemma is at what point do we chose safety over convenience. Many young people have linked texting while driving to the cause of life threatening accidents due to driver distraction.

How many people text behind the wheel of their vehicle? Can we relate to the following story? Jaci Lemons* is driving down the street, headed to school. The 17 year old driver is texting another friend. As she looks down to read the incoming text, Jaci veers off to the right and crashes head-on into the back of a parked vehicle. She is taken to the hospital, but after brief examination by the attending ER doctor, Jaci is released. Thankfully, the only thing bruised is her pride, and her pocketbook. Missouri should make texting while driving illegal for all drivers, not just the drivers aged 21 and under. Missouri has passed a state law, on Aug. 28, 2009, that prohibits drivers 21 years of age or younger from sending or reading a text while driving. While that is a great start, it isn't enough. Drivers across the country have been seen in their vehicles doing all sorts of dangerous, weird, and downright strange things while driving. Every time you look down at your phone, your eyes are off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That is plenty of time for a crash to happen. Texting while driving is severely dangerous on the road while operating a vehicle. Texting while driving interrupts it cognitively as you think about the texting message instead of on the road. It interrupts it manually as your fingers type the message back to another person. It interrupts it visually as you look down at your phone. All of these are reasons why texting while driving should be illegal in every state. The government has started to realize that texting while driving is starting to become a nationwide problem. Texting while driving is not a good habit, with just moving our eyes from the road to answer a simple message can cause someone life. According to Ian Mulgrew, a journalist author from Canada, many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the distractions are caused by cell phone usage. There are many laws being established to try to prevent distracted driving from happening; although they can’t completely stop it. The vast majority of the texts I receive and send are not life or death situations that require my immediate attention, but when I answer that text, I put myself in a life or death situation. After reading and analyzing the journals and articles, I now realize the serious consequences and problems that texting while driving, and driving underage can cause. There are many dangers that come with texting while driving that never occur to the people performing the action. "Nearly 5500 people were killed in distracted driving accidents in 2009, the Department of Transportation found." While most might believe that drunk driving is the culprit to most unforced accidents, they may not be educated enough to know that texting and driving is just as bad.
