Sunset at Santorini
Topic: Sunset at Santorini
By Holly Qu
This evening, we decided to go watch the sunset at Santorini, a beautiful island which had a sunset that meant exactly beauty beyond measure. I consider myself lucky to have even set foot on this faraway island, let alone, witness this truly extraordinary event. After my first glance at it, I was captivated. My family and I were on a vacation to Santorini. One of the biggest parts of it was the sunset. From our hotel, we rode a Taxi to Oia, the best place to view the sunset. By 7 o’clock in the evening, the place was already swarming with people. We walked along with the vast wave of crowd, looking for a place to sit. Suddenly, I saw it. Just beside the path full of people, there was a large stone boulder; the perfect viewing spot. After waiting for the sunset for about 30 more minutes, it was finally here. The sky flared with radiant streaks of color, which settled on top of the ocean. Light purple, cotton candy pink, brilliant orange, and bright golden yellow swirls decorated the evening sky, as if alight with fire. All the smooth colors blended perfectly into each other. The once-fiery sun, now glowing softly, rested upon the tranquil, dark-blue ocean, slowly sinking into the horizon. As the last ray of light faded, everything was dark and peaceful. Suddenly, a standing ovation filled the air. I was among those clapping like I have never before. The sun had set, in a way that filled the sky, even though it, itself, was small compared to the endless sky. It has shown its importance here and was off to somewhere else to shine. After that breathtaking display of nature’s beauty, it was time to retire to bed. As I lied down on my silky mattresses, I thought back to what just happened. I had just observed a sunset on Santorini. It is considered one of the world’s most magnificent sunsets. “It was an amazing sight!” I whispered into the air as the marvelous feeling of awe swept over me

It was a deceptively beautiful summer night in the month of July; Resplendent and artistic to people with discerning tastes and sensibilities. The sky was ornamented by splendiferous celestial beings. The waning moon was accessorized by the clouds, suspended mid-air in a picturesque, aesthetic fashion, wanting to augment the peculiarly blissful setting. The violet sky couldn’t have been any more sublime.…

The thick tree lines and vast open fields bring a sense of freedom and grandeur. The brilliant light shining like beacon of hope with the soft calming breeze flowing across the field is refreshing and pure like a baby after a warm bath. The air seems to be free and clear of the city’s poisonous air pollution and the soft sounds of birds makes it all too refreshing, like a beautiful day on the beach. With quiet clean monuments and buildings dancing across the landscape, the look of peace and quiet seems to be present at last. As the blue crisp skies begin to darken across the brilliant blue pond, the shimmering light hitting the trees is as beautiful as the sun setting on the Catalina Island on a bright blue day with soft clouds flowing across the sky. I have the taste of fresh fruit on my tongue in my mouth as I take a long deep breath, and realize how much the soft green grass adds to the peacefulness in the park. I can hear the cheerful wildlife scampering beyond the tree line, like young children frolicking in their mother’s front yard. As the quiet darkness sets in, and with the city brilliant lights in the background, the serene park makes the bustling city seem peaceful once…

The sun drowning into the horizon, it's rays of light glimming in the darkness as the clouds faded and the pale moon peaked at me through the stars through the window. I awoke rubbing my groggy eyes. I lied in a silk sheeted bed as the memories from yesterday's events flooded my mind. As I quickly got up and shot to the window to be blinded by the beams of sunlight in the early morning sky, curiosity swept over my mind.…

Wandering aimlessly in the pitch black along the shoreline, my mother and I depended on flashlights and the brightly lit stars since they were our only source of light. The boisterous chirping of the birds was unheard of at this time along with the sight of the playful squirrels. Nature was tranquil. Humming of the ice-cold ocean waves and our feet shuffling as we stepped on top of the soft, damp sand were the only sources of sound. The gentle breeze split through my hair and sent chills throughout my entire body. Nothing but darkness laid ahead of us but the blackness now attracted me, pulling me further into the night.…

One of the places my family and I visited was the remarkable city of Venice. Venice is like opening new shiny jewelry on a cold Christmas morning, fresh, shiny and beautiful. Upon arriving to Venice I took in the incredible view that before my eyes, a city on water. We began our journey passing café shops and smelling fresh brewed coffee to arrive to our first adventure, a ride on a gondola. The gondola was apiece of art beautifully sculpted out of some of the finest woods and the gondolier was dressed in the traditional navy and white striped shirt and navy pants. As we began to sail through the joyous Venetian lagoons we viewed the beautiful architecture that dressed and drenched the office buildings, churches, government buildings, and housing complexes. Finally the gondola came to stop and we had arrived at St. Marco’s Plaza. The plaza was like a puzzle, full of different people of all shapes, colors, and cultures. What struck me the most was the multitude of seagulls among the presence of the bustling crowds. The seagulls were children enjoying all the attention and the endless amount of bread being thrown at them from tourists, and natives. Later my family and I went into the Cathedral and were blown away by the intricate sculptures and Romanesque architectural features the cathedral boasted. We ended the day at the best pizzeria…

It was 5 a.m. on a Friday morning. From the balcony ledge, I gazed out into the horizon where mist on the world was still grey, blackened by the absence of the Moon and barely lit by the street lamps below. This has always been my favorite spot, I have cried of equal joys and sorrows in this place, my mind. That world I see through the polychromatic prism of my inspiration, memories is so beautiful that I wish everyone could partake, to taste the assortment that life can hold.…

As I lay down on the soft grass I cannot help but wonder how silly people can be, staying away from this beautiful gift provided by nature itself, but at the same time I’m glad for the privacy. I place one hand in the stream and watch the water run thorough my fingers, shimmering magically in the fierce sun. Though it seems like I’m not the only one enjoying this paradise, a shadow looms over me blocking the radiant sun rays.…

Thereafter, I bought a small but beautiful island with a billion dollars in the Pacific Ocean. I built a castle which was a baroque style, so it was gorgeous and majestical. This castle was surrounded by a river, and I planted lots of red roses nearby the river. In the morning, I always woke up by rooster’s crow, and then I went to beach to enjoy the beautiful scenery. When I lay on the beach with a gentle breeze, I could see the sky was clear without any pollution. What’s more, the touch of golden sand was warm because of the heat of the sun. Sometimes, a school of dolphins were dancing in the sea, and I thought it…

The freedom of the birds flying in the clouds brings me hope of flying through the heavens and liberating myself from all of my apprehension. It’s a place beyond, filled with butterflies and resounding music. Rivers flow into crystal clear sparkling brooks and streams, and where majestic palaces are built in diamonds and emeralds. A brilliantly coloured rainbow of the brightest blues, reds and yellows form an arch across the sky with shimmering gold oozing out of pots at the end. Grand, giant trees stand tall like soldiers that line heaven's pathway. Each green leaf is made of soft sensuous silk, which gently flops in the cool, fresh breeze. Hanging from the trees are the most succulent and juice fruit that drip with sweet nectar. Their skins are untainted and unblemished and they hang like glistening chandeliers. There are clusters of tantalizing mangoes and pomegranates, and rosy red apples with the pinkest of pink peaches. Vines full of fleshy, sweet smelling, blood red roses and golf ball sized grapes are found in abundance. Perched on the fruit tree are exotic birds that have the most vibrant coloured feathers. They sing in sweet, melodic voices that fill the serene air with charming music. Bedecked around the trees lie flowers with colours that you never knew existed, that have frilly petals that feel like smooth velvet. An array of pinks, purples, oranges and blues captivate my sight. The scent of fresh flowers calm my thoughts and sends me into a safe place. Heaven is my safe place.…
