The piece is about the effects of the declining English literacy in our country due to various reasons like mislaid nationalism and the media. The author wrote this article in order to let us recognize problems that our country is facing. It is indicated that, even though, us, Filipinos are regarded as one of the largest English-speaking countries, it cannot be denied that most of us do not seem to know how to speak English properly. And prior to this, rises a problem that has to do with many things such as difficulty in communicating with foreign people which makes it harder for us to catch up with other fast-growing countries. To justify the author’s statements, certain things were pointed out like her observation that made her rethink about our country’s proficiency in speaking and the factors that brought forth these dilemmas, and of course, to give us a speck of hope, things that can lighten up and lessen these problems were also tackled. One of the most compelling reasons about the said problem is the issue about pseudo Nationalism.Other factors like the abatement of education and the misunderstood improvising efforts of the media were also discussed. But despite of the negativity, there were still things that brimmed positivity like the willingness of the government to solve the difficulties we are facing.
As I read the article, I realize its accurateness. This obstacle that we are facing is not as simple as it seems. It has occurred to me that I can also help and take part in solving this problem by starting with myself and not being ignorant. I especially noticed the piece’s legitimacy because of the author’s way of giving information and stating reliable sources which makes the more work trustworthy. I did not think that the author overlooked on some vital things for I believe that I will not be convinced by this article if it were incomplete. The writer firmly emphasized her point of view and her belief in what she thinks is the cause of the problem and

Elizabeth Bishop’s “The Hanging of the Mouse”, places animals in the roles of humans in reference to an execution. The writer uses animals to replace humans to possibly convey a message or point of view towards the death penalty. In the story, the mouse is being executed for what we believe is some sort of crime. It isn’t clear whether or not the mouse actually committed a crime, but we are led to believe that an act occurred in which caused the mouse to be executed on this particular day.…

As we enter the hall of the National Museum of the Philippines, the prominence of "Spoliarium" an oil on poplar completed in 1884 by National Artist, Juan Luna, is remarkable. The super- sized painting depicts a dark hollow beneath the Roman arena referred to as the Spoliarium where the bodies of slain gladiators are being dragged away for disposal. This is the time in history when the Romans travelled to Europe and collected slaves, otherwise known as the Vikings, to entertain other people in Rome. The Romans created the “Viking Games” where Vikings were forced by Romans to battle lions, tigers and against themselves in an arena. It strikes me as extremely violent, bloody and inhuman. The slaves have no other choice than to fight and kill in order for them to survive. The purpose of the Spoliarium was to “spoil” the dead bodies of the gladiators by exposing them to birds or any creature that eats human flesh. In the right side of the picture you will see an old lady waiting for the corpse of her loved one and an old man searching for the body of his son. The distress is palpable.…

In this, English has become the leading medium for the transmission of information and knowledge in the conduct of business and international communication (Modern Teacher, 2002). With this, it can be noticed that Filipinos love their language advantage (superiority of usage of English compare to other Asian countries.). This was revealed by low results in various tests conducted in English. Baysa (1999) stated in his analysis on the 1998 National Elementary Achievement Test that English is the weakest area. Poor reading has always been the complaint of many teachers particularly in the Grade IV level of Paranaque Elementary School-Central.…

My "About Me" speech that I just gave in my public speaking class last Tuesday was decent, however I kind of rushed it due to the nervousness I had. I opened up my speech by saying how I didn't have anything nearly as interesting to say about myself compared to the girl that had gone before me; I guess that was a nervous mechanism, since I already started doubting myself from the beginng. I spoke about my family first, because that's the most important thing in my life. I explained how I am the youngest of four kids .. Gave all of their Names (Lance, Clemjie, and Jane) and told where they went to college what that they majored in; as well as what they do now for a living. After that, I gave a brief background as to where I grew up and where I currently work. I also explained why and how I ended up going to Middlesex Community College; how I messed up on my loans for Coastal Carolina and etc. I told the class what my hobbies where (what kind of sports I played throughout highschool and throughout my life; cheerleading, field hockey, pole-vaulting, track, softball, etc. The main purpose of my speech was to inform my peers and my proffessor of my background as well as my hobbies and dislikes; such as my pure hate for my major- Accounting, and how I extremely dislike it. I started to get nervous and forget the order of how my speech was suppose to follow, and abruplty ended it with, "Sooo, that's about it."…

    1. Technology integration was the topic of this week’s chapter assignment. The chapterdiscussed two learning theories for a foundation to integration: Directed models andConstructivist models. The directed theory revolves around behavior and the processingof information. The constructivist theory deals with more of a “hands on” and socialaspect approach. I would imagine most students at the early levels of learning are morevisual and social learners taking more from experiences than a book. I guess it justdepends on your beliefs and how you can best implement a strategy based upon yourclassroom. I personally feel that the classrooms in Piaget’s day were a lot less diversethan today’s. I think a teacher’s theory should be like a floating floor adjusting to its newroom constantly. Integrating technology into a classroom can be very tedious and there are many thingsthat teachers need to take under consideration. The (TIP) or Technology Integration Planis a model that is used to “help teachers (especially those new to technology) plan foreffective classroom uses of technology” (Roblyer & Doering, 2010). I was prettyimpressed with the model and how it went into detail with each of its phases. The phasesare broken down easy with the teacher in mind. The first stage allows teachers to setlearning goals for themselves. The next phase assists the teacher in deciding whether thelesson would be better with or without technology. I mean, it really breaks it down verywell with each of its six stages. There is also a lot of information in books and online. Ifound a pretty cool article that discussed seven different ways teachers could integratetechnology into the classroom. Create a clear vision of what a technological classroomlooks like, build an on-campus and online learning network, and invest in yourself as ateacher. These are just a few things that will help in integrating technology into theclassroom. The chapter discusses vital conditions to be present before and…
