My Experience Writing in English
MY EXPERIENCE WRITING IN ENGLISH

I really like to write essays even though if it is in my native language or in English language. I started writing in English a couple of years ago, but I had never written an essay in English when I was living in my country. Writing in a foreign language has been a really good experience, because it is funny when I try to make a phrase. First, I have an idea in Spanish. However, I have to write it in English, the confusion starts when I try to translate my previous idea. On the other hand, I thought that if I try to be concern in my English practice, it could be easier for me and I will be able to connect ideas and write an essay. As a result, in the future I will be a good writer; do you think this process could make a good writer? In this essay I will set some steps that always help me to write a good essay. First, I try to set my ideas as clear as I can, after that I always organize my information in order to establish a good connection between phrases.
First, essays always have important knowledge to teach. That information needs to be clear, because readers are going to look for the main idea to understand better. That is the reason to write the idea as clear as possible, in order to express the idea to others. The way that you chose to express your idea is really important, because sometimes you are talking about a specific topic, but in the other hand people, who read your article, thinks something totally different from your original point.
Second, the organization is also important because you have to write in order of the time. For example, if you are talking about how to cook a cake, you must say the ingredients before you say how to preheat the oven, so the time is very important to write an essay in a chronological order.
Finally, you have to write according to the grammar rules, but also make a connection between ideas. The order in phrases is so specific in English, and also this step probably is the hardest for Spanish speakers, because in English you have to build short ideas. For example, in Spanish you can make a paragraph without dot. In contrast, if you are writing a paragraph in English, omit the point is a mistake; so punctuation is very important to connect ideas making short phrases.
In conclusion, my writing experience has been wonderful. However, when I started writing in a foreign language, I had some difficulties about translation. When I have to write an essay in English, I need to look for those important rules that make a good English essay. I need to include some important steps, in order to establish my ideas. I must write as clear as I can, in order to express my main idea. After to show my ideas, I need to organize my information and make a connection between my ideas. If I follow those important instructions, I will improve my writing ability. Surely I will write much better essays as I include those structure details.

When writing an essay there really is more to it than just writing words down and making sure the words is used correctly. When someone is having thoughts they need to write them down and just go from there. At first it may not be perfect, but the writer can always go back and change the errors that need to be fixed. Before reading this I figured it was going to be about bad writing and one should not worry if it is not perfect. This made me realize that it is not about how you write, but what you write about and how to get your thoughts across.…

An essay must have a clear thesis that will help me structure the essay. After prewriting, I learned to read everything I had written down to be able to take some ideas that might go into my paper. Before this class, I used to concentrate in one single point and write very little on other points. This class has forced me to structure my paper in a way that everyone can understand. I always tried to adopt the habit of using clear, straightforward and concise words, that way my writing is clear and effective. To have an essay that everyone understands, I know that I need to make sure that my ideas are…

I have learned that it is important to structure an essay, if one doesn’t, it can be challenging for readers to understand the paper because this can throw readers off and confuse them, not really understanding what the topic is or why it is written. Structure also gives a sense of how well a paper was written and how much time was put into it. Another thing that we learned, is important to have is good context. It is a valuable thing to do because it shapes the meaning in what one wants to communicate. I have noticed that before, I used to just write and not think about if it made sense or if it was relevant to what my topic was about, but now, my organization has improved a bit to where it is easier to identify such…

Academic writing is an art of expressing and transforming thoughts and ideas into physical form to deliver information logically and scientifically. This skill needs to be refined and practiced constantly regularly. After three months of taking ESL 273, I have accumulated various experiences in writing advanced sentences and organizing academic essays which are really necessary for me to perform well in the next English course, ESL 5, as well as other classes. As a result, I think I am well-prepared and ready for the next coming course ESL 5. During the ESL 273 course, one of my strengths which is the ability of using various examples as well as explanations to reinforce my main ideas and make them more persuasive is gradually improved. For example, in my writing assignment titled “Littlemindedness- Little Limit to Go Over”, I used my personal experiences such as the diminution of discriminative thoughts and the opportunities I felt when I went from high school to college. Moreover, I also used the reality happening to the curriculum in my home country, Vietnam, in order to strengthen my attitude that coming to De Anza College can generate a significant chance to my life. In addition, I realized how important and essential transitional words are in writing an academic essay and gluing my ideas, sentences, and paragraphs together. Thus, I always keep trying to use a variety of transitional words and phrases in my essay to make it become more coherent and cohesive and avoid making discrete information. In the article “The Advantageous Policy on Immigrants”, I used some transitional words like consequently, in addition, moreover, as a result, after all, and nevertheless to create smoothness for my essay. As a result, the quality of my essays will be improved, and I will be successful in expressing and illustrating the flow of my thoughts. However, after completing 4 in-class essays, I realize that…

After reading “The Writing Process” in chapter 2, I learned the major aspects to writing a well-developed essay. The methods in developing an essay are: finding a focus, developing a thesis statement, drafting, and editing. Firstly, finding a focus plays a crucial part because when there are many ideas in mind people tend to have trouble focusing on one topic. After settling on a topic, the next step would be to create a thesis statement. The thesis is a statement that relates to all the ideas and the essay should be centered on the statement. Likewise, drafting brings in a lot of ideas for a paper. Drafting essays allows plenty of editing time. While editing essays, one might come across grammatical errors. Identifying errors and correcting them will make the essays sharp and to the point.…

I don’t see myself as a good writer and writing for me is just a required task I have to get it done. I moved to the United States three years ago. I have taken English as a first foreign language in my Egyptian school beside Arabic --my native language--. Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…
