APJ Abdul Kalam: 'A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure' Abdul kalam following
qualities to be of utmost importance for a creative leader. Leaders cannot go back to a dictatorial style. Who is that creative leader? You have to ask yourself? What are the qualities of the creative leader? The creative leadership, I define, ‘The creative leadership isexercising the task to change the traditional role from commander to coach, manager to mentor, from director to delegator, and from one he demands respect to one who facilitate self-respect. The higher the proportion of the creative leaders in a nation, the higher the potential of success of visions like developed India.’ In conclusion, reverence for life is indeed possible in real sense if a philosophical thought of reverence can be transformed into actions by empowering various components of the society. When child is empowered by the parents at various phases of growth, the child gets transformed into a responsible citizen. When a teacher is empowered with knowledge and experience, good young human beings with value systems emerge. When an individual or a team is empowered with technology, transformation to higher potential for achievement is assured. When a leader of any institution empowers his/her people, leaders are born who can change the nation in multiple areas. When women are empowered, society with stability gets assured. When the political leaders of the nation empower the people through visionary policies the prosperity of the nation is certain. When religions are empowered and become a spiritual force, peace and happiness will blossom in people’s heart. Such an empowered stage will lead to creation of enlightened citizens with value system. Here I suggest a solution by evolution of enlightened citizens with a combination of education, value system, religion graduating into spiritualism and visionary policies for prosperity. Based on the core competence India has experienced with great qualities of leadership to manage the nation of billion people with various dimensions in every aspect of life. Now we should not allow any religion or any individual fanaticism to endanger our nation. Because nation is very important compared to individual or any party or religion.
As I always tell, a vision is the prime mover which leads to thinking. Thinking leads to knowledge, knowledge leads to actions and integrated actions lead to success in missions. India has a vision to transform itself into a developed nation by 2020. In the journey of India from vision to mission, contribution of people from all walks of life is necessary. The need of the hour is to sensitize people towards this journey. Hence mobilization of right type of human resources becomes the prime responsibility of managers and entrepreneurs.
Law of development
When we go through the development patterns and dynamics of connectivity between developed countries and developing countries, we find that a developed country has to market their products in a competitive way to different countries to remain as developed country. To get transformed into a developed country; the developing country is also required to market their products to other countries in a competitive way. Competitiveness has three dimensions: quality of the product, cost effectiveness and supply in time. This dynamics of competitiveness in marketing of products by developing and developed countries, called the law of development, is one of the areas which require continuous attention of entrepreneurs, managers and industry.
Co-ordination - the key to success
Management has five basic functions - Planning, Organising, Directing, Coordination and Control. India, over the years, has acquired enormous experience in planning, organizing, directing and control. The problem is regarding coordination. This is so because economic development is a wealth generating activity. Today in the competitive world, wealth generation can occur...
