Between the three styles of leadership, it’s the democratic style that comes easier for me. Because I’m a very open minded person and I like to listen to everyone ideas in a working project, in order to pick in each ideas the best part and to mix them together with all too good parts that I have picked in each ideas, to have a great and better result. In addition, I think that when I’m using this style, people working with me are feeling more involved in the project because they can work on something they really want to work on it and where they might be better than if I had use an authoritarian style where they had no word to say and should have done what I asked them to do. I think that nowadays, employees are sometimes feeling as rejected and treated as animals. The first thing I would do, is to improve the working conditions, it is proved that if an employee feels good in his company, he becomes more efficient. I would make a good environment for my employees, in order to make them feel good when they are at work. I would also put an anonymous box, where every employees can write what he thinks and what need to be changed in order to satisfy them as much as possible. People like to be awarded for good working so I would do some “weekly challenges” where the most efficient employee would be rewarded by a gift like a nice week-end for him and his family or a gift voucher for a good restaurant. I would also organize a seminar in order to reinforce the team building by doing team sports like soccer or basketball and by eating all together. After looking my scores, I would like to change my authoritarian score because I think it’s too high and I don’t want to be seen as a very authoritarian

In 1986 the New York Mets defeated the Boston red sox in the 7th game of the World Series. The media world exploded, stating that they were “destined to win” and that they were “a team of winners”. In reality that is not how it went. They captured the title with the help of one teammate. His leadership brought it home. Having leadership on a team also makes other teammates better; it pushes them to the next level and makes people want to play like them. Having a leader on your team, is having someone who is completely devoted to the team. If you didn’t have that one player who always does what is best for the team, you wouldn’t win. Teams with players that possess leadership skills typically have a better overall team. Team chemistry, confidence and win percentage all increase. If you want to be a successful sports team, having a player who demonstrates leadership is key.…

The three characteristics of leadership that I consider most valuable are (1) integrity, (2) humility, and (3) generosity. #1 integrity is defined as great sincerity, honesty, and virtue. Strength of character. All of these words describe great qualities that should be possessed or obtained in the individual or individuals considered to fill a leadership role with exceptional expectations! Great sincerity means that a person possesses honest, faithful, and genuine traits. Virtue is defined as moral excellence, morality, goodness, effectiveness of quality, purity and chastity, and innocence. #2 Humility, refers to being the condition or quality of being humble. #3 Generosity, to share or give without hesitation, unselfish, not mean or narrow-minded; forgiving!…

Pastor Dr. Stacy Spencer reminds us every class that “all of us have room and that’s room for improvement”. I believe this with everything in side of me which calls my attention to the five areas of Exemplary Leadership. Within those areas of leadership there is one area that I may focus on and pay close attention to as I am developed into a great leader. There are other areas that I have to improve in and continue to sharpen my tools, but this area requires the most attention. When it comes to the area of “Challenge the Process” this is my weakest area in the Exemplary Leadership Module. This area is the weakest because when operating in this area you have to make moves and take risk. I understand that God has not given us the spirit of fear…

Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…

My 22 of years as a Non-Commissioned Officer and 27 total years of service in the Army has shaped how I define leadership. Simply put, I believe leadership is the balancing of two competing priorities, the accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of the people that are in your charge. I see those two priorities being symbiotic because without the people I can’t accomplish the mission and if I do not have a mission then I don’t need the people. Others can probably think of a million other subcategories that help define leadership, but I believe those are the two overarching things leadership encompasses.…

The leadership influences for me started on the first Monday morning quarters onboard the CGC Yocona. I was right out of recruit training, firing on all cylinders and ready to tow the Coast Guard line. Quarters was held on the mess deck and the young BM3 was handing out work lists for the day. I did not know who he was but I watched and listened to everyone call him by his first name. Once orders were given out to all parties he then asked if there were any questions. I was not introduced nor given a work party so I raised my hand to inquire where I was to go. I mistakenly asked him by his first name where I was to go. The morning turned from bright and casual to tense and stormy in an instant as he verbally tore into me as loud as possible. This degraded and embarrassed me which…

Becoming a successful non-commissioned officer (NCO) is one of the biggest yet most challenging accomplishments a Soldier can achieve during their military career. To be a successful leader, an NCO needs to understand their own strengths and weaknesses while recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of their Soldiers. Adaptive Leadership Essay

Due to its purpose, the military has always been known to produce quality leaders. From George Washington to John F. Kennedy, the list goes on and on. The military’s rich history has afforded scholars the opportunity to dissect how leadership is developed in the military. People can look to the military for guidance on effective leadership because officers “… are trained for high-stakes positions at a young age and are sometimes thrown into those roles with no warming.” (The Different Ways Military Experience Prepares Managers for Leadership, p. 82) According to Professor Michael Useem author of “Four Lessons in Adaptive Leadership,” leadership development is best derived from the military as the “environment creates a culture of readiness and commitment.” (p. 86) Professor Useem believes there is something to be learned from this world to apply in the corporate sector since corporations are facing more uncertainty and continuous new types of competitors. From this belief the author has reached a conclusion that adaptive leadership should be used utilizing four precepts; they are, “meeting the troops,” making decisions, focusing on a mission, and conveying strategic intent.…

This essay will present my views about the leadership lessons discussed in the book I recently read entitled Toy Box Leadership written by Ron Hunter Jr. and Michael Waddell (2008) as part of my learning reflection on the essential socio-cultural and personal competencies discussed in the unit CPD1102. The authors used the toys that we as kids love way back to explain leadership principles that are reflected in each toy. It was an entertaining and exciting experience to go back to my childhood as I read about my favorite toys mentioned in the book while I learn, better understand and know by heart some important leadership concepts that are very beneficial to aspiring managers like me. It made me realize how much work I still need to do to further improve myself in terms of becoming an effective leader because for a long while I have believed in my own style and also imitated others without really knowing why I choose to be that kind of leader. I have discovered different values behind leadership which are surprisingly relevant to my previous experiences and dealings with my previous managers. In the following paragraph, I will discuss each toy leadership concept and show my understanding about it by identifying its significance and relevance to the eight socio-cultural and personal competencies that I am expected to develop over the next two years until my course completion. Then in the end after the discussion you will never look and think of each toy the same way again.…
