I love sports. I am very athletic and love a challenging game, but sports are much more than about the physical aspects. Playing sports teaches you how to lead, but at the same time be a team player for the overall good of the team. I have struggled with that at times because everyone wants to score that final point. I consider myself an artist at heart and look to art as a stress reliever. I love to draw, paint, create things, but I also love to act and sing. In 5th grade, I had the female lead in Peter Pan and performed in front of 500 people – at 10 years old! I wasn’t nervous at all and I thought I did great. I don’t know what it is about being on stage, but it is a completely different side to myself that people rarely see. But while I am a very outgoing and loud person, great for theater, most people are surprised when they hear how much I love art. I think being creative is not some “artsy” thing, it’s how you think about the world, problems, and their solutions. Can you find a different way forward? Art challenges me on a completely different level than sports or academics.
