Topic: Exercise And Fitness
General Purpose: To Inform the audience the benefits of exercise and fitness
Specific Purpose: After hearing my speech, I want my audience to know the importance of exercise and how it is beneficial for your body and immune system
Thesis: Exercise and fitness are essential to the overall well being of people and provides many health benefits for everyone of all ages Introduction I. Attention Getter: Each of us has a physical body made of muscles, blood, bones and other living tissue. When any of these are injured or not working properly then we get ill, and nobody likes to be ill. So it is important that we keep our body healthy. II. Relevance: Although physical activity is an attainable goal on the path to a healthier life, more than half of U.S. adults do not get more then 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per day at least 5 days per week III. Credibility: According to Dr.Michael Pratt of the Centers for Disease control and prevention in Atlanta, Americans in general don’t get enough exercise; 60% of Americans are not regularly active and 5% of Americans spend the majority of their time sitting.

IV. Thesis: Exercise and fitness are essential to the overall well being of people and provides many health benefits for every one of all ages
V. Preview: Today I will speak about the benefits and different types of exercise, and just how much exercise you need to maintain being healthy.

A. There are four different types of exercise; Endurance, Strength, Balance, and Flexibility. Endurance activities increase your breathing and heart rate. They improve your overall fitness and build your endurance, which makes it easier to carry out many of your everyday activities. Brisk walking and dancing are examples of endurance exercise. B.     Lack of exercise plays an immense part in the obesity problem. People always come up with excuses to get out of exercising, such as believing it will not hurt too much to miss one day or that they do not have time to exercise. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's medical correspondent wrote, “More than 60 percent of American adults do not exercise regularly, and many are content to admit they do not exercise at all” (Gupta, par. 1). Gupta hits the nail on the head in this quote, explaining that Americans do not only realize they do not exercise regularly they also are open to admit it. This means that they do not realize how valuable exercising is for their health. Kinesiologist Steven Bray explains, “College is the first big transition in life, and it becomes an excuse not to exercise” (qtd. in Gupta, par. 3).
