How to Motivate an Employee
Sydney Morello Human Resource Mgmt. Due: Sept. 14th, 2012

As a manager hiring a new employee, I would want to motivate the employee to the best of my ability. There are many different things I could do to motivate a new employee. When I have a conversation with my new employee, I will explain to them how to work without fear and to better trust their fellow employees that they will be working with. Talking to my new employee, I will explain to them that they don’t have to have a fear of making mistakes, disappointment, or even losing their job. In my establishment, we don’t make fun of anyone who makes a mistake, we help them, so they can learn from it. None of my employees will ever disappoint me. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one is perfect. So, making a mistake is not going to disappoint me or make you lose your job. Also, never feel guilty for anything you have done. I have made mistakes before, but it just made an obstacle for me to overcome and succeed. When I was in college, I failed one semester, because school wasn’t my number one priority, friends were. So, I missed a semester and went back to school and got my degree. It was a big obstacle. But, I succeeded and look at where I am now. I will also explain how each and every one of my employees has trust in each other. If there is some sort of dilemma, they will stick up for one another. In order to be comfortable in this establishment, you must trust your co-workers. Every single one of my employees has a chance to advance in my establishment. Whether, you are starting out as a dishwasher, or as a cake decorator, there is still room for advancement. As long as you can show me that you have the potential to move forward, you will be moved forward. I periodically test my employees to see if they have made any improvements. Some employees that have made improvements will get bumped up to a higher job, it just all depends on your ability and potential. If

Communication would be the most important to use in training or learning what motivates employees in an organization. By communicating with them and discussing what their goals are and what they see as a future, a manager can get the feel of the individual character. A manager physically sitting down and talking with individual employees; whether the manager is new or he/she is a new employee. No manager can actually begin to assess an employee without talking to them. The manager needs to lay out what is expected, and emphasize policies. With the sit down, a manager can also get a feel of what the employee future goal is while being at the company.…

One motivational technique that I would use is motivation through self- confidence. When individuals have a high level of self- confidence and self- esteem it reflects in a positive way in all that they do. I would use various techniques like implementing passion and pleasure in what they do at work. Giving rewards helps employees to want to do more they are pleasing and help to keep employees eager to work while it also keeps productivity high. Recognizing and giving performance incentives gives employees a more willingness desire to give more to the company while earning something for these selves. As a manger being clear not only the job duties they are responiable for but also in the instructions that I am giving helos employees to understand my expecitations, giving detailed instructions, including being specific in what my expectations are gives a clear cut expectation on what I am expecting out of my staff. Keeps employees not only informed but it eliminates confusion.…

There was a point in time when employees were not valued by their managers or the company. Employees were perceived as just a small factor in the equation to produce goods and services. Elton Mayo led a study from 1924 to 1932 that was referred to as Hawthorne Studies, and the research that was attained changed the way employees were viewed (Lindner, 1998). Since an employee’s attitude has a direct effect on their performance, employees went from being viewed as something of minimal importance to a top priority (Lindner, 1998).
