evaluation of business communication in this contemporary period
Effective communication is a key to success in business.
Business communication is the term given to all written and verbal messages sent between individuals and groups to facilitate business activities. Business communication is an art and a science, mixing subtle nuance with strict cultural norms to achieve maximum impact when dealing with others in the business world. Studying information on business communication can help you to become a more effective communicator in business and in life.

Significance
Conducting business is a highly collaborative activity. Communication is vital in any collaboration, as it allows diverse individuals to express themselves, consider the ideas of others and solve problems together. Effective communication can boost a team's, individual's or organization's efficiency and effectiveness in their roles, and ineffective communication can have the opposite effect.

Process
The communication process can be explained in three basic steps. First, a communicator formulates and encodes a message. Next, the communicator transmits the message over a specific medium, then the receiver receives and decodes the information. Issues can arise at any point in the process if communicators do not take care to preserve the integrity of their messages. This can diminish or alter the intended effect of the communication.

Types of business communication
Modern business communication can take various forms. Verbal communication can take place in person, over the telephone or on the Internet. Written communication can be sent through the mail or via the internet. Body language and other subtle forms of communication, such as passive aggressive behavior, can also play a role in determining the nature and form of business communication.

Considerations
Effective communication techniques often assume that all parties to a conversation are aware of and utilize the techniques. When this is not true, as can be the case between a salesperson and an angry customer, for example, business communicators face additional challenges to effectively convey their intended messages.

International Issues
International businesspeople face a unique set of communication challenges as they conduct business in diverse areas of the world. Communication etiquette and norms vary among cultures around the world, and international businesspeople must understand and exhibit the cultural traits of each country they do business in to maximize the effectiveness of their communication.
