The video games have been a source of entertainment for many over the past few years and over the years its consumers are growing in number. It is a source of digital entertainment and does not trigger violent behavior or the violent crimes. It is not a new trend anymore as the games have been around for as early as the 1990s. Parents and guardians strongly believe that most games have violent content thus prohibit their children from playing as they believe it might make them violent in nature, and also drive them to commit crimes. These video games are mainly designed and distributed from countries such as USA, Canada and Japan. Controversies started from those countries where parents even demanded the ban of selling of video games to its younger consumers. Parents and researchers have suggested that some of the games are far too violent and they have already begun to claim that the government should regulate the sale of these games in order to protect the children. However, results produced by many researchers produce otherwise. Moreover, the forceful plan by the government is a reaction to an exaggeration of the effects violent video games and these controversies are unfounded. For over the decades ever since 1994, starting with ‘Mortal Combat’ to ‘Night Trap’, the community has become concerned with the depth of physical conflict and gore visualized on these games. This has drastically led the industries to have their own rating classification as ‘ESRB’- Entertainment Software Rating Board. The realistic graphics of upcoming modern games have only helped the anti-gamers to defend their arguments. Researches show that most the crimes committed by teenagers are the result of bad parenting and not video games, also dangerous surroundings and the absence of gun possession laws.…

The purpose of this study emphasizes on both, the positive and the negative impacts of playing video games on the teenagers. Over the last 30 years video games have made an impact on the way teenagers spend their leisure time. This research hypothesizes that social interaction, psychological, in particular aggressive behavior, health and academic performance is greatly affected by the extensive use of video gaming. The research proposal is further supported by the literature review of various articles including an article by Brandon T, which states that video games influence the beliefs and self esteem of children. In another article by Steven J Krish, it was proven that a positive relationship prevails between video gaming and self aggression, among the age groups of 11-17. In order to prove our hypothesis, both the primary and secondary research was conducted. The primary research was followed by questionnaires that were distributed among the targeted group and also an interview was conducted with a gaming technical. Our secondary research consisted of various articles. The information narrowed down brought very sensitive issues into the limelight. It was observed that almost 72 % of the teenagers suffered from acute aggression, bad grades and health issues, thus proving our hypothesis correct. However only strategic games were given a positive response as they sharpen the minds of the players but on the whole the negative effects overshadow the positive side of…

“If video games do increase violent tendencies outside the laboratory, the explosion of gaming over the past decade from 3.2 billion in sales in 1995 to $7 billion in 2003, according to industry figures, would suggest a parallel trend in youth violence. Instead, youth violence has been decreasing.” (Hoerrner 49). A video game is a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or display. Violence is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Some video games have violent and mature content in them. People claim that the violence in video games can cause aggression in people. Others claim that the violence in video games has nothing to do with aggression in people. It is also argued that violence in video games has nothing to do with the rage already existing inside of people. Video games do not cause violence because gamers understand that video games are not real, that video games release daily frustration and are inspiring.…

The impacts of video games, both positive and negative, have been the subject of many scientific research projects in the last few years. A large number of youths are playing increasingly violent video games. Researchers say that violent video games may contribute to a cold-hearted view and the desensitization to violence. In a 1982 Surgeon General report, concerns about video games were listed. It was feared that video games would cause teenagers to become less sensitive to the pain of others, make them more fearful of the world, and would cause them to behave more aggressively towards others. Another con of video games is the excessive playing of the games negatively affects the player’s education. Violence towards women, school shootings, and the increase in bullying are all a few of the supposed side effects of playing violent video games. Critics argue that violent games teach children that aggression is an acceptable way to solve conflicts.…

The effects on social interaction, psychological, in particular aggressive behaviour, health and academic performance were determined by the exploration of various research journals, and literature pertaining to such. Video games over the last 30 years have made an impact on the way children spend their leisure time. However, it was only during the last decade that any kind of research was done to study the effect of these games on children. Some results prove that are negative effects on young minds and behaviours, still others are inclusive as to the negative effects, while some favoured the games as a positive, especially in the hand-eye co-ordination and educational software. Some, however, lay the responsibility fully on the part of parents and guardians to control the amount of time that children spend on video games to negate whatever ill effects it may have on their behavior, health and academic performance.…

Ever since the creation of the first video game, they have had a certain effect on the individuals who play them. As video games have become more advanced and elaborate, children’s interest is at an all time high. With the degree of violence that has been a part of video games since the early 1990’s, parents and activists have claimed that these games are affecting children negatively. This claim only seems to contradict other major factors that may have a part in the developing minds of youth. There are other mental, problems at home or school, as well as programs and movies shown by the media that could have an effect on children. There are other ways to restrict what children are playing in regards to video games. Over the years, people have pushed to have these games removed from the shelves because they feel that they contribute to youth violence. Though the outcry against certain graphic video games is great, these games do not contribute to youth violence and should not be banned.…

Children with low exposure to real life violence may have limited to realize the identification of the relationship between real life violence and virtual video game violence.…

Since the 1999 merciless shooting of students in Colorado High School by their fellow students, a lot questions have risen on the effect of violent video games on people’s overall behavior. This is because, as per investigations, the two used to play numerous violent games such as Wolfenstein 3D and Mortal combat. The recent shooting of students at Sandy Hook made this scenario worse, because according to the preliminary report of the team that was formulated to investigate the matter, the shooter was acting out of a video game fantasy. Therefore, although video games are very enjoyable and some of them can help somebody to learn some important life concepts, the violence in some video games has made many to question their overall effect on people’s behavior. As compared to some few years ago, nowadays it is very rare to find a child without a video game or who is not actively involved in playing some form of video game. This is because, nowadays even if you do not own a game console, one can play most of the video games online, as long as one has access to the internet or a local network. As of 2001, research studies showed that over 79% of American teens actively played video games. This has made many to question how such exposure may translate to peoples’ behavioral change. When looking at this subject, the first assumption one gets, especially when the question is posed in its entirety, is that a violent game should naturally attract violent tendencies from the one playing the game, as this assumption is supported by the ever-increasing cases of violent and antisocial behavior of majority of those who play these video games (Anderson and Bushman 353-359). This paper is going to explore how exposure to video games can cause behavioral changes in individuals.…
