Apart from the effective management of time for getting things done, the basic things to be followed are career planning, effective team building, improve as a communicator, on motivating others, controlling recession driven economic scenario and must be a leader as well as manager. Management is an art of making people more effective than they would have been without you. There are four basic pillars in management: Planning, Organising, Directing and Monitoring. ‘The best manager is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he want to be done and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it’- THEODORE ROOSEVELT. * CHALLENGES: Management is neither science nor an art, but it is a combination of two domains: abilities and intelligence. The very basement thing which the manager must do is to build an effective team. By building a team, the manager can improve himself by motivating others, negotiating effectively, arrange for meeting and manage people, asserting oneself, influencing and gathering business information. Is it worth doing it? Yes, but managing people is not easy. Yet it can be done successfully. And that can be a very rewarding experience for a manager. Management, like any other skill, is something that one can improve with study and practice. Lack of management skills plays a vital role in the challenges of manager which is very difficult to deal with the most small and medium enterprises

I believe a manager should possess 3 basic traits. They are self-awareness, curiosity and independency. Let me elaborate more on this. First and foremost, in order to manage others one must first be able to understand oneself and manage themselves. To understand oneself one must be self-aware. They must know what biases they have so when it comes time to make decisions, they can make a clear concise bias free decision. Also when one is self-aware, they can keep their emotions and feelings out of the equation when deciding. Secondly, a manager should be someone who is curious because curious people will not only look at the surface but also dig deeper into the situation to find out what is actually happening. After looking at a situation from different angles, then they can try new approaches to find out if the real deal is actually what they forecast. Lastly, a manager has to be independent because they are the one who is making the crucial decisions. Many times a manager will listen to others for opinions but the final decision has to have gone through critical thinking and be made solely on the manager’s behalf.…

Poor management qualities can stem from poor communication skills and habits. Other qualities that may add up to poor management skills include indecisiveness, stubbornness, someone who is arrogant or shows favoritism, lack of understanding or compromise, and also resistance to change and even one who has a habit of micromanaging. I imagine that management could possibly be quite difficult as managers are required to be responsible for their work as well as their staff’s work. For some reasons, the managers’ positions have been seen in a negative way for many years. However, this does not change the essentiality of this position in any organization, especially in business set-ups. There have been a constant confusion between the role of leaders and managers, and what should be clearly established is that these two roles do not share the same meaning. Being a manager does not guarantee that one is already a good leader. However, leaders can be effective managers. This only means that in order for managers to be effective and avoid negative feedback, they should have sufficient knowledge and skills on leadership. Aside from this, managing and leading a company will also have different impacts on the organization, as well as business outputs (Treacy, 2006). It is just that their positions open better opportunities to be leaders.
