The Levels of Domestic Violence

Commercials across the nation that air to bring awareness to domestic violence often times only mentions physical abuse, however there are five different types of domestic violence. The five types of domestic violence are physical, verbal, emotional, economical, and sexual abuse. Domestic violence is very present in our environment and can happen in both heterosexual and homosexual relationships. “Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.” (http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/domviol/facts.htm) Three of the most overlooked forms are sexual, emotional, and economical. “Sexual abuse is unwanted sexual activity, with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of victims not able to give consent.”( http://www.apa.org/topics/sexual-abuse/index.aspx) In most cases of sexual abuse the person committing the act is a man but every case varies.
