Aryanization In The Shop On Main Street
As the war progressed, Aryanization was very much a part of the Holocaust and in a sense a very essential component of it. The Nazis legalized and allowed for people to confiscate Jewish property and by force if need be. Since many people saw the Jews as those who were “deceased on leave”, there was no problem in stealing or taking over their property for they were going to die anyways. This idea soon grew to be very infectious and Jews were gradually being forced out of their homes and businesses. In the film The Shop on Main Street, Tono plays a role as an “aryanizer”.     The Schindler’s List is Steven Spielberg’s award-winning film which illustrates the profoundly nightmarish Holocaust. It recreates a dark, frightening period during World War II, when Nazi-occupied Kraków first dispossessed Jews of their businesses and homes, then forced them into ghettos and labor camps in Plaszów and finally resettled in concentration camps for execution. It is quite terrifying to think how far the Nazis were able to go with their murderous ideology. Which is the primary component of what makes the novel and film so nerve-wracking. It is difficult to imagine how an entire group that were so dehumanized by another group of people and were killed as if they were nothing but ‘bodies’ without minds or emotions. The film opens up with a close up of hands lighting a pair of Shabbat (Sabbath) candles, followed by the sound of a Hebrew prayer blessing the candles it sounds similar to the call to prayer for Muslims minus the embellished throaty notes.     Things that helped shaped this story were more social and cultural issues. This book manages to make you feel how utterly evil, Evil is; and the people that carry this evil in them. In my opinion, the movie has cultural issues because of the fact that everybody understands things the way they aren’t meant. If Aryans ever were to live the life of a Jew, they would have a very different mindset on them. Aryans think that Jews are harmful people that want to cause harm, or even think of them as life without meaning.
