Informative Essay On The Holocaust
When I went to Washington, DC in 8th grade, I got to talk to a Holocaust survivor. I got to hear everything he went through. I even saw the number tattoo with which he was identified while being a prisoner. While listening to him, it sparked interest in me to learn more about the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a tragic event that started in 1933, during which Nazis occupied Poland and took Jews to concentration camps.(“Holocaust”)
When the Nazis came to power in 1933 they began to go against the Jews. The Nazis said if someone had three or four Jewish grandparents, they were automatically a Jew (“Holocaust”). They also had “Half Jews” who were only considered Jewish if they were married to one.(“Holocaust”) The Nazis did not want any Jews owning

(“Holocaust”) They added almost 2 million Jews for Hitler.(“Holocaust”) Jews were forced to move into ghettos surrounded by walls and barbed wire.(“Holocaust”) They would put six to seven Jews per room, and this was an easy way to spread sickness.(“Holocaust”) Being crammed together like this and Jews not being healthy, the death rate rose to 1% a month. (“Holocaust”).
Jews who were taken also went to a concentration camp. Auschwitz, near Kraków, was the largest death camp. (“Holocaust”). Victims of Auschwitz came from all around Europe.(“Holocaust”) Some Auschwitz inmates were medical experiments. Other inmates were starved, shot, or gassed routinely.
With the Nazis occupying Poland and taking Jews to concentration camps, this was a terrible and tragic event in history. When the war ended, there were more than 5 million Jewish people dead.(“Holocaust”) There were 3 million in killing centers and other camps, 1.4 million in shooting operations, and more than 600,000 in ghettos. (“Holocaust”). Holocaust survivors and Jewish people celebrate Holocaust Remembrance Day usually in April. (“Holocaust”). Numerous Holocaust memorials have been built in Europe, Israel, and the United States.
