Photosynthesis Abstract: An experiment was carried out to determine how certain factors such as light intensity and availability of carbon dioxide‚ affected the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis was measure by the amount of oxygen produce (cm3/min). A valid conclusion was made and most of the results were in accordance with the prediction‚ although there were some anomalies present. The errors and limitations were evaluated and some improvements were suggested. Introduction: Photosynthesis

The elodea plant‚ also called water weeds‚ are plants freshwater plants that grow underwater either loosely rooted or floating around freely. Elodea is native to North and South America and is also widely used as household aquarium vegetation. Elodea rapidly grows through fragments of the plant being dispersed in the water by water currents and human activities. Since no female elodea exists in the United States it has adapted a form of reproduction called fragmentation. Fragmentation is a form

1. Provide aim and background information 1.1 Diffusion is the process which molecules dissipate into a solution evenly over a period of time. An example is putting sugar in your coffee‚ after a while if you don ’t mix the solution‚ the sucrose will over time‚ go through the process of diffusion and be distributed throughout the coffee. Osmosis is movement of H2O molecules passing through a permeable cell membrane to the less concentrated solution‚ eventually to reach an equivalent number of molecules

Diffusion and Osmosis Experiment with a Shell-Less Egg After Three days of Testing Methods with Water and Corn Syrup Lisa July 1‚ 2013 Purpose To use the properties of diffusion and osmosis to see the effects of either corn syrup or water on a shell-less raw egg over a three day period. While looking to see the effects of these liquids on the raw egg‚ one can also apply the properties of hypotonic‚ hypertonic‚ and isotonic solutions. Introduction Cells have an outer covering called the cell membrane

Brian Toohey Biology Mrs. Heimforth 12/06/10 Diffuse the Osmosis Section 2: Introduction Step 1: The scientific concept of this lab was to see how osmosis transferred the substance through the cells to reach equilibrium. Step 2: My hypothesis was that the bag with 60% sucrose then it would be heavier than the bag with tap water or 30% sucrose. I thought this because I thought that there would be more of a substance change in 60% sucrose. Section 3: Methods First get 3 pieces of the same

plant and animal cells are placed in a hypotonic environment‚ osmosis will occur. The structure of these cells determines the response to the difference in gradient‚ whether this be lysis (the explosion of cells due to the sudden increase in water pressure within the cell) in animal cells or turgor pressure (the pressure created by the increase in water pressure within the cell) in plant cells. Turgor pressure prevents further osmosis‚ which causes the water potential outside the cell to be lower

Introduction The photosynthesis lab is designed to quantify photosynthesis‚ enabling a number of variables to be tested for their effects on photosynthetic rate. The production of oxygen‚ is used as an indirect measure of photosynthetic activity. The lab allows the examination of the effects of different wavelengths of light on photosynthetic activity. The other aspect of the lab includes

How does the relationship between salt concentration effect osmosis in the aquatic plant Elodea? Quantitative data From observing the cells under a microscope‚ we see that they are continuously moving and therefore are alive. We have observed that when the cells are in the 10% sodium chloride‚ the chloroplasts are positioned to the sides of the cell wall and the cytoplasm is more expanded. Cells in the distilled water are slightly smaller than the cells in the sodium chloride solution and

Diffusion and Osmosis of Solutes and Water Across a Membrane Brittany Bacallao Nova Southeastern University Abstract: This experiment gave a visual understanding of osmosis and diffusion. The first experiment proved that solutes would move down a concentration gradient if permeable to the selective membrane. The second experiment proved different solute concentrations affect the movement of water‚ depending on the solute concentration inside the cell. The purpose of this lab was to look for
