Watching TV- Is good for you? While it may be disliked by parents, friends or you neighbors in your town, TV industry is a permanent part of our world. In the history of TV, it began in 1873. It can help people in several ways while they are watching. Watching TV is an excellent way to relieve stress. When you spend about 10 to 20 minutes a day watching TV, you will experience and learn new things. However, watching TV is more interesting and educating people while they are watching movies. It also helps when you are having problem. Some people watch a movie as a way to get their mind off of their problems. Actually, watching TV is the most effective ways of doing things. Improved logic is another way that watching TV is good for people. It’s really sad because it’s a skill that mostly ignored in public education nowadays. It’s true because logical talents are critically important in our world. Nevertheless, watching TV trains your mind in thinking logically. Quick learning is also a good way by watching TV. Some people watch movies in order to learn some actions from the hero of the movies they watch. So they learn quickly by following the actions that they take from the movies. Most of the times people watch TV to learn things. Even the children, when they watch TV, they quickly learn things, like speaking English and other things that they see and hear in the movies. These three arguments make me believe that everyone should watch TV. We really know that stress relief is important. Improved logic and quick learning are huge assets in life. So when somebody starts making fun of you about “you wasting your time” watching TV, you can just let them know that you are experiencing things by spending your times watching

The argument in Johnsons article is that media has had to get more cognitively challenging to keep pulling the attention of viewers. He explains how he believes watching television can help make you a smarter person because it makes you use inferences, track relationships, and makes the reader think by tracking multiple threads. He uses examples from several television shows and series that may be affecting our brain activity. He makes many good persuasive points in his argument that TV isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but too much of anything is never a good thing.…

Television for many people, serves as an aid to relaxation. When the kids come home from a long day at school, Mom comes home from the nursing home, and Dad comes home from selling insurance to extremely rude clients all day, everyone looks forward to the chance to escape the burden of “real life”. Of course, there are channels that don’t completely ruin a person mentally, for example, the news. However, television is mainly entertainment. Watching Channel 7 News report that a man shot up a school full of small children isn’t exactly the last thing someone wants to see or hear before they go to bed. Moreover, watching something like Spongebob taking his driving test and failing it over and over, driving Mrs.Puff insane, gives the family a good laugh. Watching a beloved show, gives everyone a chance to spend quality time together before dealing with the exhausting tasks that come with the following day.…

In the last half century of watching television many authors, critic, and people in general has had an opinion on weather watching television is a good thing or a bad thing. In a couple of recent articles that I’ve read one Author Steven Johnson, who wrote “Watching TV Makes You Smarter”. Tells us of how violent and gruesome shows of this era are as opposed to shows of the past. Steven also tells us of how there are some good shows that actually teach people and helps them to learn in a different way. The second article that I recently read was “Thinking Outside The Idiot Box” by Dana Stevens. Not only is Dana an author she is also a paid television critic who states that TV does not make us any smarter and that television is “brain-liquefying poison” for all but especially for children. Dana insist that Steven Johnson theory be put to the test by having everyone partake in a National TV Turnoff Week event to see if anyone gets any dumber. In my opinion Television has many different purposes, such as keeping us updated with the news, educating us on different species/creature inside and outside our planet, but the main purpose for television is soley for entertainment.…

Television is just another part of technology keeping us from viewing the world and living our lives as we should. Instead of coming out of our house and taking on any challenge the world might have for us, we easily give up to our laziness, which quickly makes us grab the bag of chips, the soda, and sit down. Even though I am one of the many people who just loves to have the remote by their side, I strongly believe that television is nothing but detrimental to our society.…

Another major benefit of taking the time to watch a television show is that if presents time for family members, of all ages, to spend time together. In our current society, individuals of all ages are so busy. Parents are working to support their family and children are equally as busy. Many children are busy with their school work and after school activities, such as sports. Having time to watch a comedy or an adventure allows a family to gather together and laugh, talk and share. Today it’s unusual to go somewhere and there not to be a TV. TVs are everywhere, they are a part of life. Watching TV is often seen as not helping, just something teens watch and is considered a waste of time. I believe watching TV, and the shows on TV are often overlooked for the information they give to the people and that watching TV is better for teens than most think. Watching TV can be good for you. Ever since I was a child I’ve loved watching cartoons. I remember getting up early Saturday mornings, finally the weekend. Rushing out my bedroom door, downstairs to the television set. Only to behold my two older brothers already up and started watching Pokémon without me. Like every grumpy six year old I would sit down beside them and pretend like I too enjoyed watching Pikachu electrocute Bulbasaur. (Okay, I enjoyed it a little). This is a fond memory I have of my childhood. Spending time with my brothers and relaxing after a long week of memorizing math facts. But then, television was so enjoyable, and a treat, because my parents wouldn’t let us watch it very often. In fact, rarely any of my best childhood memories have been in front of a TV set. They have always been outside exploring the backyard with my big brother, and putting on plays for the family with my sisters. You see, we had even more fun using our imagination, and making our own stories rather than watching other people’s stories. All we needed was a friend and a world to run around in! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed I spend a lot more time in front of the TV then I used too. Not only because I am the last bird in the nest and have less people to do active things with, but because it’s become more of a habit. I come home from school, go downstairs, throw my backpack into my room and crash onto the couch. TV is a great way to escape from things for a while and not have to think of the problems around you. But is this the sort of thing we should be doing?…
