I hated winter, the days were short and the nights were long. The howl of the wind in my ears as it blew hair into my face, making it difficult to concentrate on the environment around me. I could feel the cold nipping at my skin, the air turning cloudy in front of me as if I was breathing out smoke. This was winter.…
Conflicting perspective always exist due to the inevitable subjectivity of composers, and the inevitable differing opinions of those around us. Conflicting perspectives are represented by the composer in a way that conveys their personal opinion with the aim to influence their responder’s perspective of the issues and themes presented, not in an unbiased and even-handed manner. This is evident within both Snow Falling on Cedars written by David Guterson and the 2008 film Invictus directed by Clint Eastwood within which the negative and ongoing impact of racial tension and prejudice is shown, and the differing perspectives and understanding of human values is explored by both composers.…
The snow danced down like a cloud had just exploded in the sky, covering a foot of the ground. The frigid air could make you shiver in a second. Ice covered the road like an ice skating ring. Oliver knew he shouldn’t be outside but he just had to get out. He loved the winter and was amazed at God's creation. He slowed down while turning the sharp turn. If someone wasn’t careful they could get into an accident on this turn, Oliver thought. Speeding up a little he saw what he thought was a car in the ditch. Oliver hated accidents, but he had to stop. He pulled over and started walking towards the car. It was a blue car that was in really good condition. He hands were numb by the time he reached the car. He opened the door and saw…
“No soldier ever really survives a war” These are the words of Audie Murphy, he was a notable American combat soldier in the U.S army during World War II. We were all ready to go outside, all dressed up and warm. There was way more ice on the ground than snow, and that was going to be a problem. Everywhere you stepped you would slide and fall.…

I wake up to the sun heating my cold feet under my warm fuzzy blanket. The room is filled with silence as I slide out of the coziness of my covers to look outside the window. To my delightful surprise, tiny ice crystals are falling from the sky creating a white blanket on the world. In a hurry, I put on my thick heavy jacket, slide on my hefty boots, and dress my hands with my favourite waterproof gloves. I rush onto my snow-covered yard, thinking that my favourite season, winter, is finally here. With the grace of snowfall, this winter will be beautiful to look upon, fun to play within, and fills your heart with warmth.…

I thoroughly enjoy the first snowfall. I stand outside and marvel at its beauty, as the earth is covered in the brightest, white blanket my eyes have ever perceived. I enjoy kicking up the lightness of the snow before it becomes heavy and hard with the burden of perpetual snowfall. I stand there and let the tiny, diamond like flakes cover me for just a moment, because I know that soon this…

I step forward into the deep, soft snow and hear the sound of a muffled packing of frozen wetness. All the sounds are muffled, yet somehow amplified by parentheses they fall hard but slow, despite the weight. I look at the cloud they fall from and think how the snowflake seems like a frozen flake of a billowy cloud. Its cold and the snow that falls on my upturned face froze on my eyelashes until I blinked and now the warmth of my cheeks melts the snowflake and its melted liquid runs to my mouth, it tastes sweet and salty. I looked into the night sky, expecting to see stars as I do from my home tucked away in our little corner of the world; however I get bright neon and electronic billboards that brighten the night sky so not even a twinkling of a star can show its light down on me. Advertisements, signs, and posters hung from almost every building in a dazzling array of colours. From the depths of the man-made wonder, cars honking, people shouting from building to building, and blaring music could be heard from seemingly miles around. I tried to listen for the familiar sounds of crickets doing their dance of song, frogs talking away to one another in a symphony of ribets ,It was sadly had been replaced with the roar of the crowd, the honk of the horn, a police siren screams to life behind me somewhere. I felt so lonely walking past a family singing Christmas carols, because it reminded me of my wonderful family, which I left in Manchester to move to London, my heart gradually began to freeze and only leaving me with my thoughts. Adventuring through the fogy busy streets trying to find a Christmas gift for my puppy called Muffins, i could smell a pleasant soothing aroma of warm burnt coffee, tempting me to follow it’s heavenly trail back to starbucks, wich was filled with last minute shoppers like me worrying about what to get for their loved ones, but I had to fight my daemons and get the golden woollen coat for Muffins. After…
During winter season, it would snow fervently. My yard also consisted of a rather giant slope. Due to many hills and back roads that would get black ice very easily, school was called off frequently. My friends and I would get so excited and call each other to make plans to go sledding! I would jump in my thick, white leggings and blue nylon pants along with three pairs of socks and waterproof shoes. On top I would have two under shirts, two regular shirts, a small jacket, a large heavy jacket and a toboggan on. Layered and ready for the cold, I would run outside and find my aqua green plastic sled from underneath the back porch. It was crisp and cold outside, and the snow was a clean white ready to…
It took us one hour to reach Kufri. Suddenly I felt cold in my face and saw ice flakes for the very first time and had only seen on television and felt ecstatic. We hired gum boots to walk in the snow. As we got up the snow increased. It was thrilling and had never seen so much of snow except in a refrigerator! All the surroundings were covered with blanket. We played there, throwing snow balls to each other. Neher and I tried to meet snow man but in vain.…
