Concept Paper Effects of Social Networking Sites on Academic Performance of Students
Rationale
A lot of criticism has been leveled at social networking sites and the effect it has on the way students process and retain information, as well as how distracting it can be. However, social networking sites offer plenty of opportunities for learning and interactivity, and if you take a moment to think about it, it’s not too hard to see how students benefit from using social media. As younger generations use such technology in the classroom, they remake the educational landscape. Students are experiencing the world through more than just books and assignments; they are learning and adapting to the world using a relatively new form of communication.

Objectives of the Project The general objectives of the project are as follows:
1. To discover how the students of MSU are using social networking sites.
2. To evaluate the students’ academic performance when using social networking sites.
3. To study the uses and enjoyment gain from social networking sites
4. To determine how social networking sites can be used in a classroom for educational learning.

Location of the Project
The project will be conducted inside the campus of Mindanao State University, specifically at areas where crowd of students are staying during their vacant time, in such place like Internet Cafes, Taytay, Commercial Center, dormitories, cottages, ETC.)

Activities or Tasks The tasks and activities to be performed in this project are as follows:
1. Perform one on one interview on random students of MSU.
2. Conduct survey
3. Document the interviews by using video-camera or regular digital camera.
4. Evaluate all the information gathered.
