3.0 PROBLEMS AND EFFECT OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE MANAGER, ANWAR PATEL AND HIS SUBORDINATE

Anwar Patel was the manager of the MATA SHOE COMPANY at Thana. First of all, as a manager he was overfriendly with his subordinate. As a result, he was experiencing loss of respect with the section heads under him. Besides that he did not has a formal relationship with his subordinate. For instance, he had his lunch in the worker’s mess. During his lunch, he even smoked a beedi or two with them. On the other hand, he didn’t establish a formal relationship by applying the appropriate way of communication. In addition, he smoked and drank happily with them. He also exchanged a few smutty jokes and shared some stories with them. According the flow of communication, he was ignoring the vertical communication between levels. This communication exists between a manager send messages downward to employees. However, he did behave in another way. In contrast, when the correct lines of communication are not used, the grapevine often results. Therefore, a vehicle for distortions of the truth, rumor and gossip will occurs. Apart from that, active grapevine can cause much damage to an organization by spreading completely, false or exaggerated information. In addition, he told his subordinate about the story of his life and many spicy episode of the director’s life. This may leak confidential information about the relevant company. At the same time, he also joined the section under him to gossip a foreman who wore an old fashioned coat and hat. As a manager, he did not convey a good image of the company. Correspondingly, he didn’t show his model attitude to his subordinate. His attitude would affect the image himself and even the reputation of the company. Last but not least, he didn’t consider deeply about the consequences of what he had said to them. The effect was the employee did not shown respect to this manager eventually. 4.0 SOLUTIONS AND WAYS TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS

Based on the situation given, Anwar Patel used the wrong way of communication skills when he was communicating with his subordinate. In fact, he should not behave overfriendly to them even though he wasn’t in the working area. First and foremost, he must build a formal relationship with the employees of the company. As a consequence, employees will certainly show respect to Anwar. He should make use of the vertical communication between levels. This type of communication enables manager send messages downward to employees. Meanwhile, employees can also send message upward to their manager simultaneously. It is suggested a manager to have a limited communication towards their subordinates. He must be able to aware the cultural differences and to be sensitive to them. The advantages are to recognize difference, avoid assumptions and pre-judge to the employees of the company. On top of that, he should not suppose to leak the information and privacy of any people in the company. It is important to guarantee the safety and security of the company. Communication cannot succeed if a person is highly emotional about topic concerned. This is to prevent employees from incorporative in a company....
