As I started to read the poem “In my computers” by Alan P. Lightman, I did not understand what the author wanted the readers to understand; however, I reread it several times and I started to figure out several thoughts. One of the first thoughts that came into my mind was that he is obviously talking about technology, but he is talking way beyond technology. He is talking about the distinctive programs that computers share today with us humans. The programs that today computers share are not common and definitely not like the ones we used to have in the old days; in the old days there were not even computers. With today’s technology, computers can show us the new world. We do not have to get ready and go to see what is happening to the world. We just need to take a look to our computer and let technology show us the nature, the people, and everything that surround us.…
Although information is available by a click of a button, the internet is influencing both our mind and our reading habits, life without Internet is unthinkable, so much so that it has become a universal medium. Carr grabs the attention of the reader by stating a quote from a movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” the final scene where Dave loses his mind (533). After that, Carr makes a connection of how the movie ends and how deep reading is a struggle due to the countless hours on the internet.…
He had spent the last few hours lying in bed awake after he got back home from the library — not out of necessity, but simply because… well, he had no idea. Thinking too hard about the events of the day gave him a headache, leaving him confused with the feeling that he was missing important details and leaving his brain going around in maddening circles.…
I pushed the covers off the top of me and dived for my computer. It felt like a little fire had started in my heart, and had a sudden jolt of energy compelling me to do everything. I opened a document, most days an empty page would make me want to procrastinate but right now I could not wait to get started. ‘Do you can trouble speaking on a stage but wish you could speak without fear? Come join speech club before school in M5’…
Despite the thousands of benefits to using computers and technology in our everyday lives, there are also a number of reasons as to why we shouldn’t be so dependent on them and even why we should be suspicious of them and the…
It was coveted, the time just after lunch but before classes resumed, a sort of pseudo recess that we craved. This was computer time, an odd hybrid between the frivolity of recess and the drudgery of classes. Oh yes, we were learning. There was typing from Roller Skate Typing, history from the Oregon Trail, math from Gold Medal Math. This was the technology in the classroom in the late nineteen nineties and early two thousands; a time that makes many older and younger generations chuckle. For us, however, this was a time for explosive growth of technology use in the classroom. In the eighties, it was too expensive. Before that, it was non-existent. In my fourth grade classroom where computer time was waited for with baited breath, there were…
The world we live in today is fundamentally and drastically different from the world that existed even fifty years ago. Today, computing is at the core of almost every human interaction that exists. Laptops, smartphones, even SMART television sets are now the norm as opposed to a luxury. Because of this, the world is “smaller” than it has ever been and communication is much different now than in the past. This fact has many benefit and risks associated with it, factors that may have been unfathomable to people in the past.…
My eyes felt heavy and dry from staring at my phone for so long. I know I should have been studying for my science test, but I procrastinated, so I continued to keep my dazed eyes glued to the bright screen. When I rarely looked up from my phone, I noticed that day was withering away, as it was becoming more and more deep into the night, with the sun replaced by the moon in the star-filled sky. After just simply turning my neck to my window, I felt stiff from staying in the same position, being too lazy to get up out of my comfortable fuzzy chair. At this point, I knew I had to start studying, but instead I kept playing Candy Crush. My mom always told me to put down my phone, but I never listened..…
In 1981, IBM sold the first "PC", made from an 8088 processor with a clock speed of 4.77 MHz. It wasn’t the first computer ever made, but it was the first computer sold to ordinary people. We have moved on, we have made changes, and we have progressed to enhance computers. Computers have found their way into many aspects of our lives. In most cases computers make things easier for us. Computers have helped us so much, yet people seem to think we have come to be too dependent on them. Are computers really hurting our lifestyles? They have allowed us to learn, to communicate, and to organize making life just a little less stressful. Computers are great for the future of our world and will be greatly needed as we have many more things to discover in the near future and beyond. People may complain and argue that computers are just too much but they will see the truth when life needs more organization ,more communication and more education. Yes we could survive without computers, but the truth is… do we want to when we realize just what a computer can do for us. Computers are a central data base with thousands of resources instruments and tools that can help change the way we live. Yes we can use books and other resources to learn, but isn’t it nice to highlight the facts we need to know and take out the rest. Furthermore I will continue to discuss the reasons why computers are good and why we have not become overly dependent on them.…
CONCLUSION: The above written clearly indicates that computers hav really changed our world and will keep on changing it with the…
However, it would be simplistic to assert that computers have a generally negative impact. There have been enormous advences in communications, medicine, design, education and numerous fields of human endeavour. Nowadays, virtually the entire sum of human knowledge is as far away as the nearest internet point. Computers have brought about a profound change in the way most people inthe developed world live. (Although it should not be forgotten that the majority of the inhabitants of this planet have never so much as touched a computer keyboard.)…

A few years ago, computers were practically unheard of by most people. Today, computers are one of the most powerful tools throughout the world. The world has changed since these machines have come along. They play a huge part in many all of our lives in one way or another. And it’s almost scary to stop and think how much we rely on them on our day-to-day routine. People always tend to seek the easy way out looking for something that would make their lives easier. These machines and tools have given us the ability to do more in less time giving us, at the same time, more comfort. As the technology advances, computers become faster and more powerful. The increased use of these tools, however, would control humans' lives and change the way in which they think.…

Some people believe that computers are more a hindrance than a help in today's world. Others feel that they are such indispensable tools that they would not be able to live or work without them.…
