a special person in my life
A Piece of Me
Everyone has a person that is special and has given our life a different way of seeing things or different point of view. Being a mother has been the biggest positive change in my life. Since I had my first daughter, I have become more mature. My daughter and I have a very strong relationship. She is intelligent, respectful, caring, and friendly.
My daughter’s name is Angelica Parra. The meaning of Angelica is “angel of god”. Its origin is Greek. When I was pregnant I was looking for names and couldn’t find any that I liked. I chose Angelica because my mother’s is name Angela, also I used to watch “The Rugrats” it was a kid’s TV show about a family that has six kids and one of them was Angelica. In that show Angelica was very mean to her brothers and sisters. I’m glad my Angelica isn’t like that. Angelica is eleven years old. She is about 62 inches tall, she weighs 64 pounds. She has long shiny black hair. Her eyes are brown and she has long eyelashes. Her arms and legs are very hairy. She has a beautiful dark skin color. She is Hispanic born in Queens New York. Angelica loves wearing dresses, she mostly likes long and soft dresses. She doesn’t like to wear earrings. She lives in Lawrence with me. Angelica loves going to the park and playing with her cousins and friends. In her spare time she likes to read chapter books. Angelica also loves eating candy. Her favorite food is pizza. She loves animals, she says she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up. Angelica’s favorite color is blue, almost all her t-shirts are blue.
One place that angelica likes to spend time is her room. She decorated her room with different drawings that she did. Angelica and her sister share room. So when we were moving into the house we live in, they both wanted to paint their room with different colors. Angelica wanted her room to blue and her sister wants pink. My husband and I decided to pick a color that they both probably like, so we paint their room purple. Angelica likes to do her homework in her room, because she feels she can concentrated better.
One of the most important qualities of my daughter is her intelligence. She loves school since she was in kindergarten, now she is in fifth grade. One day when she was in third grade she came home crying because she got a B on a quiz. She was so used to getting her A’s that she thought something was really wrong, but immediately she started studying because she wanted to do better on her next test. She even said to me, “Mami I need you to tell me that I have to do better every day at school, this is going to help me and push me more do to good in school.” This immediately told me that I have to keep track of her so she won’t lose interests in school. I have always been so confident about her and school because she is always getting awards and report cards with excellent grades. She maintained her grades with A ’s. She got a scholarship to go to La Esperanza which is a private middle school for girls only in Lawrence. Angelica’s intelligence had influenced me because I decided to go back to school so I can get better on my writing and maybe continue with a career, for a better future for my family.
Another quality that my daughter has is being respectful. She knows to respect the elders around her and how to behave, depending on where she is. She always listens to me when I’m talking to her, even if I’m wrong about something she just waited until I finish talking then she says what she has to say. One time I felt so embarrassed and guilty after I was accusing her of losing a book from the library. She kept on telling me that I had returned the book without her finishing reading it. She just said to me, “You know how I love to read, I wouldn’t just lose that book so easily. I remember you took it back with the rest of the books.” When I went back to the library to find out if I had returned the book, they told me, I did. When I got home I apologized to Angelica. She just said “It’s fine mom, but you need to listen to me sometimes too.” She never raises her voice to me because I have taught her that she has to listen to me, and if there is something she has to say, she can say it not yell. Angelica’s respectful quality has influence me because I’m using the same method of raising my youngest daughter Yadeliz as I had with Angelica. I want my daughters to be a good citizens in this society, I’m showing them respect so they can respect me.
One quality that concerns me about Angelica is how caring she is. I don’t want to hurt her feelings and I have to be careful about what to say around her. I know it is a good quality, I just hope no one takes advantage of her. She cries easily, even watching a movie. There are some days when she gets so sensitive that if I talk loud to her, she cries. If she sees someone on the street asking for money, she worries about that person, whether they have food or a place to stay. The last time I saw Angelica cry was when the school year ended in June this year and she had to leave all her friends that she had known since she was five years old, because she was going to a different school. That day when school got over, she and her friends were outside the school hugging and crying, exchanging phone numbers and oovoo accounts. Since then, she has been asking me every Friday if I can take her over to her old school to see her teachers and friends because she finishes early at her new school on Fridays. Angelica’s caring quality has influence me because I had learned how to show my daughters affection. I was raised in a family where that if they gave me affection I would get spoiled. There for I can’t remember if my mother ever gave me hug and told me, she loves me. I want my daughters to keep a good memory of their childhood with love.
Another quality of Angelica is how friendly she is. She gets alone with all her classmate. She also get alone with kids of different ages, even if they younger than her. When we have family gathering she always likes to spend time with her cousins and play with them. When she was in second grade, she told me that there was a new girl in her class that just came from Puerto Rico and didn’t speak any English. Since the girl didn’t have any others friends and didn’t speak any English Angelica decided to help her. Angelica’s quality of been friendly has influence me because I try to do same as she does just to let her know that she is doing the right thing by been friendly to everyone.
My daughter has changed my life in many positive ways, I love her for that. Being intelligent, respectful, caring and friendly are just a few of the qualities that make her an amazing person. She is always getting good grades at school. She is always quiet and good a listener, showing respect to everyone. She has a very caring heart, will easily cry.” The little piece of me,” as I call her, has made me become a more mature and dedicated mom, working hard to support her and her sister. Also she had inspired me to go back to school and get a better education for a better job in the future. I look up to my daughter and hope she will continue to be the good daughter she is.

Within the first three minutes of the episode, Angelica goes from extreme highs to lows regarding her mood and behavior. She has a difficult temperament due to being egocentric and extroverted. Angelica sees the world through her perspective only, and any ideas that are not hers are not worth listening to. When finding out she was a finalist for the talent show she was ecstatic, until Suzie’s name was announced following hers which brought on a fit of rage. Immediately she became competitive which heightened when the girls decided to both perform dance routines. There is a scene when Angelica is in her room having a conversation aloud with herself, an example of private speech, where she says how horrible it would be for Suzie to win, since the winner gets a trip to her favorite theme park. I noticed that she acts on impulse and there is little thought put into the consequences of her actions a good majority of the time, which Freud would describe as her Id. The first example of this was when Angelica went over Tommy’s house who is Suzie’s neighbor. She dug through the toy box to find binoculars which were used to spy on Suzie. While spying she sees how beautiful Suzie’s costume is coming along, and ultimately gets caught by Suzie. Another example of Angelica acting on her Id occurred the day of the talent show when Suzie came in with sparkly new tap shoes. As soon as Suzie…

In the short story "The Love of My Life," two teenagers make one bad decision and their lives are changed forever. The author, T. Coraghessan Boyle, wrote the story based on an actual news story that had occurred a few years back. The author does a great job of making the relationship between Jeremy and China seem so wonderful and almost innocent, that it is hard to be angry with them. The two characters in the story, Jeremy and China, are young and are head over heels for each other. The very first line of the story is all it takes to make the reader realize that these two youngsters share the true meaning of love, "they wore each other like a pair of socks." All of that changes when the two find out that China is pregnant. Instead of properly handling their situation, they have the baby and dispose of it in a dumpster at a motel. Although the story has a very upsetting plot, you can't help but feel some sympathy toward the characters.…
