Zika Virus Research Paper
Zika virus is a disease spread to people mainly through a mosquito bite. The mosquito has to be infected with Aedes Species. Aedes Species is the main character that spreads the virus that causes Zika. Usually the mosquito that carries the virus is a female. There are a number of symptoms involved with the disease. For example some common symptoms are a fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes. This is a mild illness where the symptoms can last for several days to a week after the initial bite. If you catch Zika, you may not show any symptoms at all. Studies have shown people rarely die from the Zika virus. Once a person has Zika and been infected, usually they did not get the disease again. Investigators have noted a surge in Julian-Barre syndrome in areas of the world that have experienced Zika

Evidence is growing that infection with the Zika virus can cause birth defects in a baby, the defect known as microcephaly, a smaller than normal head and brain. These children may also have facial distortions, seizures, difficulty with coordination and balance, impaired thinking abilities and other neurological deformities. Microcephaly is actually very rare and usually caused by genetic abnormalities. With that being said, the uncommon number of children born with this disease after a major Zika outbreak is raising red flags in the medical community, about a probable cause and effect connection. All Zika infected American were thought to have contracted the virus from mosquito bites while traveling outside the US, but now there is one confirmed case of sexual transmission of Zika. In Texas a man who had apparently contracted the infection in Venezuela infected his partner who had not been outside the US. Studies show that body fluids including blood are factors that can transmit the virus, although this is uncommon. The virus survives in blood for about a
