he grading system has given opportunity to score much as compared to earlier system but simultaneously setting of question papers within certain framework has forced to concentrate on limited peripherals instead of thinking the same in a broader way. Good students always perform well under any platform but they feel motivated when their knowledge is challenged. If options are given for chapters, students will definitely go for selective study instead of going through entire content of the course. Their knowledge is confined at their own choice. The concept is being developed in the mind of the students that even if they do not perform good in academics, they will be automatically promoted in due course. Earlier we could have demarcated excellent students and average students but the new grading system in no way has motivated students having high caliber. Due to grading an average student as well as a topper will be placed in the same rank. The college admission for higher studies has become tougher. We agree that under old system the percentage of suicide was increasing day by day due to mental pressure but the day is not far away when most of students will be suffering from frustration.

Students are given endless projects, assignments and activities as a mandatory part of education. No such restriction on the volume of assignments has been imposed on schools up to what extent they can pass these on to students. Moreover no one is able to judge whether relevant guidance has been given to students for exercising their skills to give ultimate shape. It has not been looked into that how far students have learnt from this. Further students are not getting enough time to concentrate on self study. They have become easy prey of the teachers who can exploit them to fulfill their personal grievance. The situation has become worse as students always remain anxious of getting exploited by the concerned teacher if he is not able to satisfy their demand. The end result is degradation of qualitative education system.

If the policy makers of CBSE are concerned to make the entire education system simpler so that literacy percentage will increase but in other way they are not concerned about level of quality education to produce future leaders of the country. In the long run CCE system cannot persist and all of us will have to revert back to the old platform.

Have you ever felt that lost? Have you ever felt that you know you must finish something quickly but do not know how to start with? Students always feel that when homework’s due day is coming in the next few hours. The teachers always make some dead line to request students to finish their assignments in time. But sometimes those students do not know what information they are studying, they just know that those are requirements for good grade. To a certain extent, students are becoming study machines. As John Taylor Gatto argued in the article “Against School”, “Schools are to establish fixed habits of reaction to authority, to make kids learn, and do, foolish and boring things (P.152).” Also, in the article “Idiot Nation”, Michael Moore criticized that Americans are sliding into idiots because of problem schooling. Those showed there are some problems exist in the American public school system. In order to improve the American public school system, students’ critical thinking skills must be improved. To do so, school administrators and teachers can do some changes for their curriculums, such as school should reduce the use of standardized testing, teachers can use case study method and cooperative learning strategy instead of boring lecture.…

Self-study habits and responsibility are two aspects commonly over look while attending an institution of high learning. Going to class and participating during each lesson is important but learning how to study by ones self and managing time is vital while working in the real world. Bosses do not care how or when tasks get done as long as it is complete and perfect by the deadline. The same goes with the assignments given by college professors. The instructor may assign a project the first day of class and make it due by the final exam. He or she does not care if the student procrastinates till the week before the deadline;…

Students will be more pressured to follow directions and guidelines to achieve certain grades. The traditional grading system will also present an easier outlook for parents and students according to their deficiencies. According to the article, Ken Halla (high school history teacher) argues that the A-F grading system helps students and parents to better understand students’ performance and their progress more easily. That in mind, A-F grading skills will make students have better direction-followings skills and students will put in more effort to demonstrate that they have completely learned and understand the material. However, by doing so can also result in a negative impact by undermining a student’s academic interest in learning and thinking skills by the A-F grading…

    American Grading System

The article “The Case Against GRADES” in the publication, Educational Leadership 69.3 (2011): 28-33, argues that due to the excessive competition of traditional grading systems, students no longer focus on the course material and its importance, instead attention is based around how well they performed in comparison to their peers (Kohn 30). The author of “The Case against GRADES”, Alfie Kohn, is the publisher of fourteen books based on education, parenting, competition and motivation. Kohn debates that the competitiveness of letter grading systems is not healthy because it causes students to focus on doing better than others in comparison to actually focusing solely on comprehending the course material. In this case, achievement and success are what triggers students’ will to learn. Therefore, the lack of this incentive with the pass/fail grading system will negatively alter their will to learn. Although, it is portrayed as if the competition is disrupting all students learning, it is actually causing many to study and work harder to understand the necessary information so that they can achieve and succeed at a higher level than their peers. Even though competition is their motive, they still have to learn and excel academically in order to be competitive. Within the pass/fail grading system there is an absence of competition, which may…

It had been many years that CBSE had'nt changed the Education System for Classes IX and Xth.Everything was working smoothly but one thing which lacked in even the Toppers was the Lack in Important Human Values and other Qualities like confidence on Stage,Arts Etc which have more importance than marks to be called as an Educated Person! There is No Fun of 99 Marks out of 100 If you have got them by Cramming. CBSE realised this in the year 2009 and Mr.Lovely Singh, the Education Minister of India declared the start of the Grading System and the CCE! Grading System has been a great boon to the society. No Doubt that the competetion has decreased but according to me Competetion never brought any Good!! What happened due to Competetion was Suicides of Children coz of their freinds getting more marks than them or etc. If a student got 92 marks in Maths and another student had go 92.5 in the same, there had been thousands and thousands of Students between this .50 Difference , which used to give a lot of problem for the admissions! As all my knowledgable Competents who have spoken/will be speaking that Grading System has caused problem in admissions then I would like to tell them that With the Grading System, came the grades of qualities like attitude towards teachers, discepline etc and all the Counsellers might not consider the grades much than these qualities. If there are 2 students with A1 Grade, and one has Grade A1 in…

    Disadvantages of CCE

    • 300 Words
    • 2 Pages

The biggest disadvantage of the Central Board of Secondary Education Continuous Comprehensive Learning programme is the grading system that it uses. [ Students scoring 90 marks and 99 marks respectively will still both attain an A* grade, so it could be described as unfair for the student scoring the higher mark. One other shortcoming is the fact that huge numbers of students are grouped together. For example, last year there were 348 students in Navi Mummbai at Universal Tutorials all scoring more than 90 per cent. It is possible that a scenario will emerge wherein all students scoring above, say, 91 per cent in all subjects will have the same cumulative grading. This poses the problem of how do you rank them? What will the admission process for the Standard XI based on? In an attempt to address the problem a percentile mark has been introduced by the board. The percentile of a student indicates the position or rank of the student in percentage form. The top ranked student will get a percentile of 100. This is calculated by the formula, 'Number of students below student X 100 divided by (total no of students -1). However, this in itself brings its own setback. The grading system may actually lead to more stress and disincentive to performance. In addition to CBSE, Secondary School Certificates by state boards and those governing the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education are also conducting exams for Standard X and continue to follow the marks system and percentage of mark in each subject. Marks percentage and percentile are not comparable. This leads to an open ended situation particularly for the Standard XI admission process and those seeking admission from CBSE to other boards. This issue is still to be resolved and a decision needs to be made regarding how it will be tackled.…

As a part of this new system, student's marks will be replaced by grades which will be evaluated through a series of curricular and extra-curricular evaluations along with academics. The aim is to reduce the workload on students and to improve the overall skill and ability of the student by means of evaluation of other activities. Grades are awarded to students based on work experience skills, dexterity, innovation, steadiness, teamwork, public speaking, behavior, etc. to evaluate and present an overall measure of the student's ability. This helps the students who are not good in academics to show their talent in other fields such as arts, humanities, sports, music, athletics, etc.…

Today's world is full of competition. There is no space for comfort in this throat-cut competition. And our Educational board is providing relief to the students by introducing grading system in board. In my view grading system will made students more relax & there will be no competition to score good or high marks. This will directly affect their competitive attitude, which is I think will be not good for students. In this world, lack of competitive attitude in a person means they will not survive in the world. Students are the future of their country, so how can they bright the future of their country when they are no where in this breath-taking world...??As we all know, there is two sides- one is positive & another one is negative. Our Educational Board who thinks to reduce the suicidal cases of students. But what abt the students who are getting more than 90% marks...??Let us consider, if a student gets 90% & another one is getting 85% but the grade awarded to them is same....then what is the use of 90% marks. This will totally discourage them. They will be depressed. They will think what's the need of so much hard working when there is no use of it.Take a real experience of mine in engineering, I talk to one of my senior, who is meritorious student of his branch, he told me that in the first semester, he studied too much, gave full time to studies & scored 90% marks but he said what's the use of it. His colleagues who didn't study well also scoring equivalent marks to him. I know these all thoughts were came in the minds of the students."Marks doesn't matter, knowledge matters"The main reason of increasing suicidal cases is a worrying issue. The reason behind it, is the lack of good & effective education. In the end, I strongly oppose the Grading System. Our education should not be a burden for students. They should be encourage not discourage. Parents & teachers only helps students to overcome it & of course students also…
