Why I Want to Be a Teacher
Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with being a teacher. I can remember playing school with my dolls and teddy bears wishing they were real students. As I got older I realized that I needed to make my childhood dream come true. Ever Since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with becoming a teacher. I began by tagging along with my mom to work, who is a teacher, to make sure this was this was the occupation I really wanted to be in. I saw how dedicated she was to her students. She would spend hours working on lesson plans and grading papers, however at the end of the day it was all worth it. With her help a child was now one step closer to a bright and promising future. So I decided to attend Albany State University because of its outstanding teaching program and the high standards placed upon its students. Once I become a teacher I plan to enrich and engage my student’s minds. I want to be the type of teacher whose students will always remember and say, “that teacher changed my life”. As a teacher I plan on being the best at my craft, and treating it as a career not a job. Teaching is one if not the most important careers to be a part of. At some point in his or her life one has to be taught or learn something. I want to be a part of this and make my own impact. As a teacher I hope to enrich the lives of my students. I want my students to leave class everyday and know that they learned something. My goal is for my students to be the future doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. Children are truly our future. If I can make a small impact on my students when it comes to choosing the right path for their future then, I have done my job. My philosophy of education is that every child should and will be able to learn and apply every lesson taught to the best of his/her ability. I will accomplish this by always expecting and encouraging the best from my students. By acknowledging that every student is unique, as the teacher I will do my best to accommodate each individual. I will make sure that the learning environment is safe and secure so that my student’s potential will be realized. As the teacher I will demand respect but also give respect. My teaching process will not consist of lectures but of seeing and doing. I believe hands on activities and being able to relate lessons to real-life will promote success throughout my classroom. But most importantly I will establish rules with rewards and consequences for my student’s behavior. As the teacher I have to understand that my students will come from all walks of life and that it is my job to make everyone feel welcomed in my class. When it comes to multicultural education I feel that I am obligated to help every student not matter their religion, sex, culture, orientation, or background. I will try my best to be as fair as possible to all of my students and treat no one better than anyone else. By making sure that I encourage all of my students to reach their individual potential I will encourage cultural pluralism. As an educator I will do my all to uphold the Code of Ethics for Educators. I believe that educators are held at higher standards than in other careers. Our behavior is appropriately judged due to the fact that we work with children every day. We are held up as role models and authority figures in and out of our classrooms. Our students come to school every day expecting a trustworthy adult to be present. We offer the security of being in a safe environment. Without the our students would not thrive. The ten standards listed in The Code of Ethics for Educators ensure that we know the difference between right and wrong. Also as an educator I realize that I need to take my job serious and maintain professionalism at all times. Upon graduation I plan on using everything I have learned at Albany State University to start my career as an educator. I will never lose my drive to make a difference in my student’s lives. I know that my student’s futures will be bright with many opportunities, if I guide them in the right direction. Believing, that each and every student can learn and apply all lessons will promote success throughout the classroom. Most importantly I will be a role model. Leading by example and always maintaining professionalism will encourage my students to do the same. In the end I hope to become the best teacher I know can be.

In one form or another, philosophies of education have existed throughout many years of our history, dating back much further than the development of the first classroom. From the beginning, the philosophy of education has existed in some sense, whether with the past educational practices of survival of a specific population or culture in a home setting, or the state regulated educational system and practices existing today. While the philosophy of education is a very diverse subject involving many questions, concerns, debates, and opinions, it can be primarily summed up by defining the philosophy of education as an ongoing conversation about the important issues and concerns focusing in education, and involving teachers, students, learning, and knowledge. Many classical educational philosophies exist today, including old to newly recent additions, but as an educator of anything to anyone, it is important to own a personal educational philosophy to help make everyday decisions throughout a career. Many personal philosophies may run similar, but because every individual has their own individuality, ideas, knowledge, experience, and opinion, no two personal philosophies share all of the same views. With some philosophies, theories are teacher-centered, and with others, student-centered, but they all have the same goal: and the goal is to provide students with the best education possible. Being a college student with future dreams of providing knowledge and education to students, I find it essentially important to have developed my own personal philosophy of education, and carry on my philosophy to my future career. Including all aspects on philosophical education, including what I plan to teach and to who, I aim to lay out my beliefs of what makes up the best, personal philosophy of education, and why these beliefs make up a beneficial philosophy.…

If you were to ask a teacher why they chose their profession, you should not be surprised to hear them say they felt called to educate the next generation. As honorable as this calling may be, it comes with great responsibility. Teachers can become overwhelmed, feeling like the weight of the world and its future rests on their shoulders. They cannot be like parents who can choose to limit their focus on investing in their own children. A teacher’s influence can be limited to their school, their classroom, and their students.…

When I first made the decision to go to college to be a teacher, I did it because I enjoyed kids. Now after being in the education program for two years and having been in multiple classrooms, I have decided that I want to be a teacher not only because I like kids, but because I enjoy being a part of the intellectual and physical development children go through. To me being able to witness and help in the development and growth that children undergo in the classroom is one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever experienced. I have had teaching experience in both small and large group settings and the feeling was the same, when I can help a child succeed in learning, I find myself successful too.…

I want every student to leave my classroom learning something. I know that every child has the ability to learn even the smallest things. I feel that a teacher should take on roles outside the classroom as well. Sometimes a teacher is the only person a child feels they can talk to. It is important for the teacher to have a warm, welcoming, and confidence way about her so that the child is more likely to come to her if and when they have a problem. I know that I will provide that to my students. I plan to continue to grow as a teacher through experiences, reflections and guidance from others.…

I hope to graduate from college with a grade point average above a 3.5. I know that this will take a lot of work but I am willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Goal Statement

My main reason for wanting to become a teacher is because I love children and I love working with them. Upon graduation from Boston College, I've had the opportunity of working in New York City public schools as a substitute teacher and at a privately owned nursery school in the Bronx as a part-time instructor. My experiences have been very rewarding thus far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. I can't even begin to describe the joyous feeling of knowing that I've touched the lives of the kids-- it is truly priceless. When kids pass tests, when kids say, "I get it," when kids come in and say, "Thanks. You're the best teacher I ever had," or "will we have you again" that means a lot. They make me laugh, they give me hugs, they cheer for my presence, they are observant, and most of them just need a little push. They give me nicknames, they miss me when I'm gone, they try so hard to do what I ask so much of the time. The most amazing feeling of all though is when the kids tell me they want to be just like me and teach just like me and are able to go in front of the class and teach others what I have just taught them. I have finally discovered what I am truly passionate about and am pursuing this passion by continuing my education so that I am able to fulfill my goal of being the best that anyone possible could be. This is what has driven me to want to go to Mercy and continue my education to become a teacher.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…
