There are many reasons proving why the UN is relevant and irrelevant. What I am trying to prove is how the UN is irrelevant in today’s global society. The UN has helped out with some issues in the past, but it has also had its share of issues itself. The UN has had conflict with the US because of its sovereignty being threatened by the UN.
The UN has threatened the sovereignty of individual nations. One way they have done that is because of the UN conference about arms and weapons. In the US, it is stated in the Constitution that we have the right to bear arms. If we ended up having a universal gun ban, that would end up overruling the US constitution.
Another reason why the UN is irrelevant is the myth of “International Law”. The myth states that nations can be dictated by an outside entity. Since the UN was originally created, they eventually gravitated towards putting international law into play. They are attempting to seize the the authority of the leaders of sovereign countries.
One more reason why the UN is irrelevant is because of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and how it doesn’t make sense. The ICC doesn’t have the power to force UN member countries to comply with its rules. There aren’t clear definitions to what would be a crime that is worthy of an ICC trial. Because an ICC trial is international, rights in our Constitution might not even exist when there is an ICC trial.
Although the UN has many issues, it has helped with the issues of different countries that are members of the UN. It has helped to negotiate the ends to wars, such as the Iran-Iraq war. It has also assisted some countries with money for agriculture, the environment, and health care. The UN has helped with these issues in the past, but currently they are threatening the sovereignty of independent countries. If the UN was completely relevant, they would not be trying to take away the...
