Why Should Leaders Be Allowed To Have A Profile
Leaders with Profiles
United States Army thinks of a leader as someone who is flawless. A leader is a person who is smart, commanding, charismatic, and free of mistakes. However, this perception of what a leader should be is unrealistic. A great leader is someone with good communication, inspires others, confident, good decision-making capabilities, and has integrity and accountability. These different qualities allow others to not look to someone because they have to but because they respect them. A profile will not stop a good leader from leading their team to success. There have been soldiers with missing limbs that still accomplished multiple missions. Leaders should be allowed to have a profile.

A person in a leadership position is a leader. A good leader has a mindset someone others can look to for guidance. A person who can make on the spot decisions fixing every day problems as well as long-term goals the benefit the overall mission. A profile will not stop a leader from holding any of these skills. For example, someone with a shaving profile will still hold the respect of his or her team members. In the new age Army there is still an old mindset of how a leader should look. He was a combat engineer. He lost both his legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. Of course, most men would give up and accept their fate. Not Rob Jones, with a lot of therapy he was able to overcome all type of physical obstacles. He has since been running marathons and biking across the country. Rob Jones showed great leadership qualities for not only his sheer determination, but also his willingness to adapt and overcome. Rob Jones stated, “I’m doing it because I want to be an example of somebody that uses a -tragedy or something that would normally bring them down — instead of letting that pin them to the ground helplessly or destroy them mentally, I’m being an example of someone who uses that as a tool to make themselves better or do something that makes a difference”(Rob Jones).
