Why Kids Should Have Homework
Dear Mrs. Nelson,

I don’t think kids should have homework.

Kids might have other important things to do. For instance maybe there is an emergency so now they can’t do their homework that day.

My other reason is that some kids get a lack of sleep. Their homework may take a while so instead of getting ten hours of sleep they only get five hours of sleep.

All i’m saying is that kids shouldn’t have homework.

Sincerely, Corvion King

If only they went to bed earlier, concentration and attentiveness would improve. But in their report, the researchers say the schools are ignoring adolescent biology and are “systematically restricting the time available for sleep and causing severe and chronic sleep loss.” They're not alone. The chorus of voices in favor of schools starting later had been getting louder. In August, the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) issued findings that lay out a stark and sobering picture of how sleep deprivation harms teenagers, a common problem among high school students especially, adolescents who don't get enough sleep (CDC recommends 9-10 hours) have an increased risk of being overweight, suffering depression, and struggling academically.…

Not enough sleep for students can cause issues with: mental health, decrease ability to learn, increase obesity rates, increase the number of car accidents, and substance abuse (“Review” 1-2). Having students get up later for school due to later start times would benefit more than having students doing drugs and risking their full potential to become a successful adult. Students need more sleep since they are still growing and developing. Although some people disagree with later start times due to parents’ jobs and other family related issues, schools should start later in the morning because teens do not get enough rest due to homework overload, and because teens brains do not start functioning until later in the day.…

Imagine a school where you only had four days of school per week instead of five. As it turns out, there is such a school district in Pennsylvania in order to save the district money. Most students are thrilled by this idea, yet some aren't so sure it would be the best thing. I think this would be a good idea and should be pushed out to other districts because kids could get a longer break, more time for extracurricular activities, and there wouldn't be a huge difference anyway.…

Students ask themselves “why does school have to start so early?” on a daily basis without receiving an answer. Usually, teens find it difficult to fall asleep early and get their 8 hours of sleep, therefore the next day they wake up early, and they're tired all day at school. That is a norm for middle and high school students, and it shouldn’t be. School start times are too early, and need to be change to a later time in order for students to get their full 8 hours of rest.…

The average person should be sleeping for seven to eight hours. Students have six hours from when they get home at approximately 4 and sleep time at 10. Within this short six hours they must shower, eat, do A LOT of homework, socialize, relax, do some out of school activities, prepare for the next day, do chores, read a bit of a book, maybe watch some television, look after younger siblings, attend to the needs of their pets and take a nap because they are already exhausted from school. When it’s put like this you can see that there is quite a bit to do but, by sleeping less than the required amount it is seen to increase moodiness, anxiety, aggression and stress. Just imagine staying up to finish your homework that was set by your maths teacher three weeks ago and waking up with only three hours of sleep to find you that you did your English homework instead. But being the good person you are you still go to school and your Maths teacher rambles on about being organized and how you’re a horrible student and you finally snap screaming that you have better things to do, which…

School days should also be shortened because more time for extra-curricular activities would be allowed. Many children take part in sports that they enjoy, and the children need time for that. The students also need time for other hobbies such as playing an instrument, and some are very talented, and to get better, they need to practice. With all of the activities that the students are participating in, they also need time to sleep for a decent amount of time. They do not want to be tired for school the next day.…
