Why I Attend College Essay
Right now I am attending Polk State Collegiate High School in order to obtain my Associate of Arts degree while I am still in high school. One of the main reasons that I am attending Collegiate High School, besides to get ahead is because I have no college funds. My college savings were used in order to try and keep my step dad from being extradited back to England. In the end he still got deported leaving me and my little sister to survive off of my single mom’s teacher salary. My ex-step dad, who has been in England for four years now, has not pay child support at all for my little sister which makes it extra difficult on my single mother. I plan on staying at Polk State through the rest of my college career in order to save money. I will become a part of their nursing program to …show more content…
The extra money I make as a crew trainer helps me pay for the things that I want and need which has been helping my mom financially while she is still paying immigration costs that my college savings didn’t cover. I have been saving money since the first day I started at McDonalds, but I know that it won’t make a dent on the cost of college. It has been hard over these two years to make a specific work schedule and stick to it when I am a child of divorce. It gets difficult to do homework and go to work while traveling across Lakeland every other weekend and Tuesdays. My parents have been divorced since I was three, so I have never known what it was like to live in a stable family at any point in my life. My father has never really been a “father figure” in my life. He came to one game of each season. He isn’t that dad you hear of that is in the front row cheering his baby girl on no matter what she does. He hasn’t been my biggest supporter when it comes to the decisions in my life and doesn’t seem to believe in me all that

I know I am not the only person that has had a hard time getting into school, or understanding how. Now that I’m in it, I feel lots better but of course it has been a very hard time coming from a 9-5 job and then straight to another job to pay the bills. First off, I learned that it is not free. No matter how many ads and people I had spoken to telling me “oh yeah, school is free”. It certainly has not been for me at least. I had a few small grants but nothing that was enough to help out with my living costs/ tuition/ books, thus leaving me to the device of taking out student loans. Since then I have been seeking scholarships but have not had the greatest luck. With this information that I have provided, I have now taken one loan out and this is my first loan. I still work two jobs picking up shifts at a bar on a weekend and receiving a student loan. I shouldn’t have to take a loan out that I am going to pay back years from now. I am having to work two jobs and do two classes a semester which to get to any or the degree that I want, will take years thus leaving me with a huge amount of debt I owe. Now, I am still lost just finding my own balance of work and…

My name is Julia and I am in my early twenties, and I would have never have imagined that I would one day be going back to school to earn my college degree. My mother and fiancé encouraged me to pursue it, because of my love of art and talking to people, marketing and public relations and that it would be very expensive since I wanted to go to college in America but could not afford it at the time. They were very supportive from the start; my fiancé assisting me in writing notes on flash cards and giving me pop quizzes and my mom reminding me to complete homework assignments when I was busy doing household chores. To me, my life was going great as I advanced further toward my future goals.…

There are many reasons why people go to college. College plays a role a student’s life, one of these roles are to help get students a better job that pays them a lot but that isn’t the only reason. Today, many students are beginning to work while in college. Over the past few years, tuition, room and board, and other school expenses have become more and more expensive. There are many types of financial aid available, such as loans, government grants, and scholarships that could help me pay for my college education. However, some of us are not lucky enough to receive “free money” from the government or a scholarship. For people like me who need to take out a loan in order to get through college, a job is necessary to make the monthly payments. I recently started my first semester in college to hopefully major in business administration in a couple years. I also got myself a part-time job managing finances at my brother’s body shop to pay for some expenses and carry some extra money. Through my experiences combining work and college, I have noticed there are many struggles, great ways to manage those struggles, and great benefits,…

I am determined to go to college even if there are some setbacks that make harder for me to do so. For example, when I was in 10th grade I found out that I had scoliosis, and the only way that I would be able to treat it was through surgery. At the time that I had found this out, I had already planned out my sophomore year; I was going to take 2 AP classes and 2 math courses above my grade level. At the time I truly believed that I was going to be able to go through the surgery, take all my classes, and very least get decent grades in all my classes, including my AP classes. However, that semester ended up being my worst.…

Now, I have two older sisters enrolled in college, luckily they receive financial aid, and my parents only contribute a small amount to their college expenses. However, I am a DACA recipient, now that the program has ended and it is inconclusive whether a new program will be created, I am uncertain if my parents or myself could pay for my tuition. Because of my DACA status, I think I have had to work twice as hard to prove that I am capable of success, and that I am in this country to pursue a prosperous future. I am dedicating my spare time into looking for scholarship opportunities and for a form of employment. I am determined to go to college, and I think my motivation and aspirations are greater than the invisible barriers that come from being undocumented. As a teenager with limited retrospective of just how pricely things are, I am just now realizing the trouble my parents have to go through in order to give us the many things we have today. I am grateful for my parents and the effort they make to raise me and my sisters, and I am glad my sisters have the experience of college because they are guiding me, and motivate me to be the best student I can…

“A college shows a man how little other people know. Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.” During the interview with the college students or former ones, they all say that I must focus on my education if I want to pursue my dreams as a scientist or as a FBI agent. I believe that college is the best path for me after high school. This is because college can help give me a higher level education, get me a better job, and help me find my own path.
