Childbirth and Georgia State
My name is Shanel Fannin. I am writing this letter in regards to my Fanicial aid suspension. Being that my academic progress is in review I would like to fully explain the events that transpired within my life that led to my acedemic downfall. I intially enrolled as a fulltime student at Georgia State university Fall of 2012.While attending school I also worked part time at a fast food resteraunt called Sonic pulling in forty hours a week.During Fall semester I was able to maintain my grades in school while working a very demanding job.I came into this college experience with high hopes and determinaton of being successful.I am futhermore appealing my ineligibility for financial aid because of the unfortunate circumstances that occurred during my Spring semester of 2013.

I unfortunately live in a low income household of five with everday struggles of looking after my siblings, paying bills, and maintaing the household. Neither one of my parents work so therewere a lot of responsibilities that I had to uphold to. I am the first person between both my parents that has taken the oppurtunity to attend college.

Their were two events that occured this past semester that caused a magnitude of emotional stress which consequently effected my academic progress at Georgia State. The first event occured January 5th, 2013. I had a termination for my pregnancy. I was previously aware of my pregnancy Decemeber 2012 during the end of my Fall semester. Taking in consideration that I live in low income household having a child during that point of my life was not a wise choice to make if I wanted to continue attending school and working part time. After my operation I developed symptoms of post partum depression that substantially impaired my emotional well being. Before my actions of this event I did not not consider how much this would affect my life and emotional development. It was very hard for me to cope with the choice I made of having an abortion. It began to be very

I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic suspension and grant me another chance to receive financial aid to allow me to continue my education towards my degree in nursing. On May 6, 2012 I faxed over my appeal to financial aid for the fall 2012 semester at Capital Community College which was denied. During the 2010- 2011 school year my grades were poor and I received a letter by mail stating that I was dismissed due to my academic progress & a low GPA. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education.…

I am writing to appeal my current student aid suspension for the Fall 2013 semester. I am aware that this has taken place due to my college GPA and lack of attendance in classes. I have met with a student advisor and am currently taking steps to improve my careless behaviors and restart my process. In the times that I have become absent, I have been dealing with the changes of the Board of Social Services. They have changed many rules and regulations after the time I began in January of 2012. I am currently getting more information on what their dos and don’ts of this program with me being a student will or will not affect in future references. In this time I have also made out an action plan to improve and cautiously take on the next level. I have made the choice of retaking classes such as Math and English. I have declared a reasonable way to be in school and cooperate with the Board of Social Services, with that being said I have taken action and changed my major from Health Science-LPN Preparation to Pharmacy Technician. I will also be required to take fewer classes to avoid a collision with the criteria of the Board of Social Services. I have been trying to collaborate and make arrangements, and abide by the bylaws of the Social Services. They are strict, but I am willing to make a change in my passion to take on a new career field. I am not placing blame on them because I have been slacking and blowing off days in my time here as well. I can guarantee that I will not slack on any of my obligations for the Fall of 2013 and if there are any more ways to clean up my act and straighten out this mess I have created, I am always available for…

My academic record remains far from perfect, and I know this. I’m determined to continue to repair the damage I’ve caused and obtain a degree and start a career, not only for myself, but for my new family as well. Before jumping back into classes, I took over a year off from school to address and manage certain areas of my life that have kept me from focusing on my academic career. During the Spring 2011 semester, my life became increasingly overwhelming and chaotic. While trying to balance an overabundant amount of bills and expenses, I was also involved in a very demanding and emotionally abusive relationship at the time. My biggest regret during this time was giving this person enough power to control my actions and derail me from achieving my goals. It was a learning experience, and one I hope to never repeat. This instability, along with battling an existing heart arrhythmia condition, only became more difficult when I began experiencing stress induced petit mal seizures. I was completely unaware that I was experiencing these seizures during the semester, thinking I was just suffering from exhaustion, and went undiagnosed until classes were over. This volatile combination of events became my final straw and I knew at that point it was time to step back and get my life under control before I could even think about continuing on with my…

My name is -------- and I am writing to appeal my suspension from financial aid. I hope that you will reconsider your decision and grant my financial aid. I would like to begin thanking you in advance for taking the time to read this letter and consider my request to reinstate my financial aid at Metropolitan State University at Denver. I admit, I took so many credit hours in college, but I would like to explain the reason. As Spanish person, and because I speak English as a second language, I had to take ESL(English as a Second Language) classes for my first two years (four semesters) at CCD (Community College of Denver). The ESL program was not something that I had chosen, but something that I had to get done in order to follow my general education. I did not mean to spent so much time in college and take so many credit hours, but I did not have other options.…

Ever since high school, I have struggled with school. After graduating high school, I graduated with a 1.7 GPA. I always knew I was an average student, so I accepted my GPA proudly. However after entering college, everything changed. I knew everything was going to be more difficult and demanding. Beyond all the hardships of academics, I was also going to have to pay for all of education by myself, because my parents could not afford it. This adversity made it extremely difficult for me to decide if I wanted to continue my education and enter college. However, despite my finical struggle I decide to continue my education and apply for college. I applied to Rockland Community College, where I wanted to work on increasing my GPA.…

I, Kourtney Brooks, am writing to you in hopes that the decision of me being ineligible for financial aid due to not maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 can be appealed due to extenuating circumstances. Entering into the spring semester, due to my performance in the Fall I knew there was a lot of work to be done. In the Fall, after being out of college for a few years I had to get acclimated to working and going to school full time, not to mention online schooling, which is something I hadn’t experienced before, but due to having to work to take care of myself I made the decision to try it because I know in order to truly excel in life I have to further my education. Nonetheless, I went into the spring semester a stronger student due to the mistakes in the semester that instilled the strength and…

One of the most significant challenges I face as an undocumented first generation college applicant is financial need. I am the first child of my family to be enrolling into a college this fall. Financially speaking my family is considered to be middle or lower-middle class. Although we make ends meet the strain of college tuition is an impending force that will soon become a large issue for my household. Likewise, the fact that I'm undocumented excludes me from many scholarships making paying for college all that more daunting. College tuition is not something that my parents have had to think about before. Yet, with the end of my high school career approaching and the start of my college career beginning it is apparent that my family will…

This is in response to the official letter that I received from your office regarding the suspension of my financial aid. I am writing to present a request to have the privilege of receiving financial aid again. During my last semester, year, including the months leading up to my suspension for credits at Howard posed a challenging point in my academic career. With the external pressures and stress conditions faced at the time prevented me from meeting my set goals for academic progress. The long strenuous hours at work, the displacement that my Mother and sister faced by moving to Boston from Miami, then back to Miami, then later to Pittsburgh and then now back to Miami. The worries of what I was going to have to sacrifice in order to send money to my immediate family, as well as other less fortunate family members in Haiti, all took an unbearably heavy toll on me thus spilling over and effecting both my attitude and efforts placed towards my classes. It forced me to readjust and reprioritize things causing school and my studies to be placed on the back-burner. I found myself at work, working on days I had schedule classes. I wasn’t putting forth any real effort in any of my difficult classes primarily because I was so distracted with stresses outside of school. I was sort of just going through the motions. During that moment in my life I was fatigued end exhausted with school life. I had arrived at a point where I forgot why I initially came to Howard, which was to be the first person in my immediate family to attend college and earn a quality education. I came to Howard to earn a bachelors degree and work in a field, still to this day, I’m most passionate about. Without the required financial aid, it would be difficult for me to take…

As I moved on into my junior year I was voted into being Treasurer for our school’s FBLA-PBL. I also got an invitation into National Honor Society. I filled out of application and waited for the letter of acceptance or denial. At the time I felt great about my academic standing, 3.6 GPA, mostly all honors and dual enrollment courses. Needless to say, it came as a shock to me when they rejected me. Their reason for my rejection as a lack of GPA, at the time the requirement was a 3.5 GPA. I did not take this lightly, I thought to myself, “If NHS won’t accept me, what college would?’ I saw as all my friend began to get into NHS and yet I was struck with a black and white paper that simply said I was not good enough. I went on to ask teachers about what I should do. Shortly after I wrote a six paragraph essay taking about how I met the requirement for each one of the NHS pillars. I would have been so happy if I turned in that letter and they accepted me on the spot. However, the day after I turned it in I was called down and informed that the decision had not been…

I am again requesting the reinstatement of my Financial Aid (Stafford Loan and/or Pell Grant) to complete my graduation requirements which consist of, 9 hours that I will complete in the Fall of 2009, with a completion of all standards for my degree program in December of 2009. Previously, I was unable to attain satisfactory academic progress which resulted in me exceeding the number of attempted hours that is required for my degree, which was the reason for my first appeal. My first appeal was approved for Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters as long as I didn’t have any unsuccessful attempts (F, W, WF, etc),…
