Why Do Male Athletes Get Paid More Than Women

Is it fair professional male athletes get paid more than the women? Most female athletes don’t feel appreciated as much as the males do. According to Thomasson, females in America continue to be viewed as the “weaker sex”, and inevitably this mentality continues to impact women in American society (para 1.). Most of us females believe that in order for them to feel equal as the male athletes they’d have to do everything a male has to do and they shouldn’t feel as if there aren’t perfect for the way they are.

Us females aren’t allowed to take steroids unlike the male do. What I also believe is that they do have more male sports than females do. We aren’t really allowed to play a male sport, when really we should be allowed. We female athletes have very limited opportunities when it comes to sports. There are very few amounts of jobs for us women in the sports industry, which includes small positions, and pay a small amount of salary to make our life a living. The sports community defends the men ability more than they do with the females, and women should receive the same opportunities as the men. Female athletes should get evaluated in there own right and not be compared to men. One example Bille Jean King gave was, just like a heavyweight boxer and a lightweight boxer are not compared to each other when deciding prize money and the value of the boxers skills and ability are not based on weight class and size, then we cannot do this to classes of male and female athletes who are not competing against each other (para 4.). Most people also believe that the only reason why professional male athletes get paid more is because they are powerful than us females, and because there competitions are more excited than ours. In this same way many people say that “female athletes do not bring in as much money in terms of sponsorship television or that there competitions aren’t as long the men’s games” and they do not include as much games as they do in the men’s league. Reasons to why they don’t get many sponsorship for television or etc., is because the sports industry don’t pay very close attention to us female athletes. But the thing is, is that all that doesn’t matter. What matters is that both genders work hard enough to get paid the same amount of money, and it shouldn’t matter how you are or what kind of gender you
