College athletes, the football and basketball player go through very hard time because the sports arena is characterized by injuries, politics and unfair dismissal from the team. According to Tyson Hartnett, “Why College Athletes Should Be Paid” says, many players often get scholarships from a period of one or two years which covers college tuition fee, meal-plan, housing and textbook and these benefits, participating in college sports is considered a full time job and also the NCAA produce billion in annual revenue from college sports by selling tickets, through donations, media right and advertising. Also Tyson argued that athletes must get paid some money each semester so it would help them a lot, they can spend money on item they needed as well as opportunity to start managing
Universities use their sport teams and athletes’ success as an advertisement for the college admissions. Another thing to consider is that most of the college basketball and football teams bring more revenue to colleges and universities than other sports. So, just providing scholarships to all the athletes does not do justice for the athletes who bring more revenue. Athletes need an income to be guaranteed in a future. If something goes wrong in their career they end up with nothing because they risk their life to play. For example, Kevin Ware was Louisville University men’s basketball player, injured his leg during an NCAA tournament and needed to do surgery and rehab his leg. His college education was at risk, family was responsible for the medical bill of around twenty thousand dollar, which they had to pay from their pocket. According to CBS News if a player get hurts they will lose their scholarship which happened to Ware. The coach simply declines to renew his scholarship.
